Research Associate II
Position Summary:
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Research Associate II in theĀ Public Health Research Institute (PHRI) within the New Jersey Medical School (NJMS).
Under the direction of faculty member, the Research Associate II will work on funded research projects examining the underlying immune mechanisms regulating differences in transmissibility of M. tuberculosis strains and uncovering mechanisms of resistance to Mtb infection. Will also be responsible for coordinating activities related to participant recruitment and sample collection, record keeping, writing and reviewing laboratory SOPs, training personnel, writing reports and manuscripts for publication, and contributing to the writing of grant proposals to further fund this work.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
- Performs immunological and microbiological experiments to investigate interaction of Mtb strains with host immune cells across the TB spectrum. The findings will provide strategies to develop new immunomodulatory therapy and prevention of infection vaccines.
- Responsible for cohort sample collection activities for the transmission and resistance studies, ensuring adherence to standardized protocols, data integrity, and timely completion of study milestones.
- Keeps up-to-date with technical and theoretical knowledge related to immune responses to microbial pathogens.
- Generate, compile and present experimental data with appropriate conclusions, recommendations, etc. pertinent to research activity.
- Present scientific/research contents in institutional, national and international forums.
Minimum Education and Experience:
- Must have a Ph.D. in Biology or a Master Degree plus three years of relevant experience in mycobacterial immunology and microbiology, with preference for candidates with experience in cellular immunology.

- Position will require ability to perform standard laboratory work for 5 full days per week and will include BSL-1 BSL-2 and BSL-3 studies.
- Must be willing to interact with other research group in collaborative projects, including shipping and handling materials received from/to collaborators.
