Research Associate III
Position Summary:
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Research Associate III for the department of Pharmacology at the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.
Under the direction of the Principal Investigator, Research Associate III performs computational analysis of ongoing research projects focusing on the function of transcription factor (TF) networks in mediating cell fate transitions at the early stages of oncogenic transformation as well as during aging of the immune system.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
- As directed, performs the computational analysis of bulk and single-cell multiomic datasets; develops computational pipelines for the statistical analysis of high-throughput data involving gene expression, chromatin accessibility, epigenomic and proteomic data obtained from various transitional senescence states that are generated within the laboratory.
- Maintains and updates the computational resources assigned to the laboratory within the University's high-performance computing clusters, including updating of core libraries and incorporation of new computational tools, as directed.
- Assists post-doctoral and pre-doctoral staff within the laboratory with statistical analyses of experimental data.
- Works closely with the PI in the development of analytical strategies to achieve the laboratory goals, including optimization of current algorithms used to determine transcription factor binding dynamics, pseudotiming analysis and integration of multimodal datasets.
- Contribute to the development of performance standards, selection of methodology and instrumentation and coordination of the analytical, biochemical, physiology and instrumentation functions with the research areas to ensure conformance with the goals and objectives of the department.
- Maintain accurate records of laboratory notebooks and research activity. Review literature and prepare manuscripts and abstracts for submission. Present findings at national meetings.
Minimum Education and Experience:
- Master's Degree in a relevant science plus one (1) year of related research experience, or a Bachelor's Degree in a relevant science plus two (2) years of related research experience in the pre-processing, analysis and visualization of single cell and bulk high-throughput sequencing data.
- The candidate must be an experienced user of analytical suites for single-cell and bulk highthroughput sequencing data including Scanpy, Seurat, Signac, DESeq2, limma, WGCNA as well as standard preprocessing tools including Bowtie2, Cutadapt, Samtools and Deeptools.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
- Physical Demands: Standing, sitting, walking, talking or hearing. No special vision requirements.
- Work Environment: Lab environment with moderate noise. Radioactivity and hazardous chemicals are used in the lab.
