The Opportunity

The School of Electrical Engineering and Telecommunications invites applications for a Research Associate to join a high-performing and collaborative team working at the forefront of wireless communications. In this role, you will contribute to innovative research in channel coding and signal processing, supporting the delivery of high-quality outcomes across funded projects. You will work closely with leading academics and researchers, contribute to the advancement of emerging communication technologies, and play an active role in collaborative initiatives that enhance the School’s research profile and impact.

This position offers the opportunity to develop your research skills and outputs through contributing to the writing of scientific papers and reports for international journals, participating in conferences and workshops, assisting in the supervision of research students, and engaging with industry partners.

This role reports to Professor Jinhong Yuan and has no direct report.

Skills & Experience

  • A PhD (or soon to be awarded) in Electrical Engineering or Telecommunications, and/or relevant professional experience.
  • Proven commitment to proactively maintaining up-to-date knowledge of disciplinary developments in wireless communications, channel coding and signal processing.
  • Demonstrated ability to undertake high-quality academic research and to conduct independent research with limited supervision.
  • Experience in delay–Doppler domain modulation, channel coding and signal processing, including channel estimation and detection, and/or machine learning applications for wireless communications.
  • Demonstrated track record of publications and conference presentations, relative to opportunity.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively within a team, collaborate across disciplines, and build productive professional relationships.
  • Evidence of highly developed interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and engage with a diverse range of stakeholders and students.
  • An understanding of, and commitment to, UNSW’s aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.
  • Knowledge of health and safety responsibilities, with a demonstrated commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.
