Overview

The Department of Human Development and Family Science (HDFS) at Auburn University, through funding from the Department of Health and Human Services' (DHHS) Office of Family Assistance (OFA), the Alabama Department of Human Resources (DHR), and the Alabama Department of Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention (ADCANP) is seeking a Research Associate IV to serve as an evaluation coordinator and lab manager supporting the work of the Alabama Healthy Marriage and Relationship Education Initiative (AHMREI) and the ADCANP Prevention Program Evaluation Project.

AHMREI provides high-quality relationship education programming through two funded projects to couples in the community and to youth in high schools while simultaneously evaluating program outreach, effectiveness, and implementation elements. The ADCANP evaluation project includes the documentation of outreach and effectiveness of primary prevention programs, as well as all fatherhood programs, implemented in the state by local nonprofit organizations and agencies funded by ADCANP.

In collaboration with the Principal Investigator and Project Managers, this individual will be engaged in a variety of research-related activities that include:

  • managing online data collection systems,
  • training and overseeing community-based data collectors,
  • monitoring and overseeing data collection procedures,
  • conducting data cleaning and database management,
  • performing quantitative and qualitative analyses, and
  • Preparing reports for funders, academic audiences, and community stakeholders.

The Research Associate will be part of the leadership team that jointly prepares final research reports required annually by the funder, as well as academic manuscripts, conference presentations, and translational research reports for community stakeholders (e.g., past participants, community partners, policymakers). The Research Associate will utilize primarily quantitative research methods to assess outreach and evaluate effectiveness, and will also incorporate qualitative methods and participatory action research procedures (e.g., focus groups; interviews) to gain further insights and to assess quality and in-depth experiences.

This is a limited term appointment beginning August 15, 2026 and ending September 30, 2027; continuation of employment is contingent upon availability of funding and job performance.

Responsibilities

The Research Associate IV will work collaboratively with the AHMREI research and ADCANP evaluation teams to implement the approved research plans and will provide technical assistance across data collection sites. Responsibilities also include:

  • coordinating with the designated outside evaluator for the local impact evaluation, as required by the federal funder.
  • conducting basic and advanced statistics that include descriptives, means comparisons, linear regressions, and modeling (e.g., structural equation modeling, multi-level modeling, and linear growth modeling).
  • leading the writing of reports and co-authoring manuscripts using expertise in relevant HDFS background research and an expert level of academic and technical writing.
  • providing supervision and mentoring of other research assistants (students and staff)

This position requires advanced research experience including research literacy and writing experience, as well as advanced statistical and research methods. The Research Associate will run and interpret analyses, aid in the writing of reports and manuscripts, critically evaluate individual studies and bodies of literature, and translate research into everyday language to explain scientific findings to audiences without a research background.

  • Master's degree in content specific area of research
  • 6 years of experience in research practices and protocols

When a candidate has the required education, but lacks the required experience, they may normally apply additional appropriate education toward the experience requirement, at a rate of one (1) year relevant education per year of required experience.
