The Mellon College of Science (MCS) is home to four departments and many programs and research centers that cross disciplines. We approach scientific problems from fresh angles using creative interdisciplinary approaches while drawing on our departmental strengths in the core sciences. MCS faculty members are nationally and internationally recognized for their research in a variety of fields, including polymer science, cosmology, mathematical finance, and neuroscience.
The Armbruster lab in MCS is seeking a talented Research Associate to develop genomic approaches to identify bacteria that degrade carcinogenic compounds in soil.
Core Responsibilities
- May program software in support of job functions. Attends project meetings.
- Identifies problems and obstacles to progress; develops strategies to solve problems.
- Summarizes statistical information for analysis, examination or presentation; writes technical reports. May build and validate quantitative models.
- Performs research experiments following experimental protocol and procedures. Researches and documents information by compiling and maintaining accurate and detailed records.
- Uses a variety of software packages to input, manipulate, collect and record results or observations.

Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree required. Master's degree in quantitative biology and bioinformatics is preferred.
- Minimum one year of research lab experience required.
- Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- A combination of education and proven experience from which comparable knowledge is demonstrated may be considered.
