The Strathclyde Institute of Pharmacy & Biomedical Sciences (SIPBS) seeks to appoint a suitably qualified researcher to the position of “Research Associate” who will add to our current portfolio in research. The position is part-time and is being offered on a fixed term contract until 31st March 2027. The postholder will join the Pharmacoepidemiology and Healthcare Research Group in SIPBS to support our expanding research group programme and will be working specifically on a collaboration between the University of Strathclyde, NHS Health Boards and Public Health Scotland, funded by the Scottish Government: The Cancer Medicines Outcomes Programme (CMOP-PHS).

Established in 2016, CMOP-PHS focuses on generating real world evidence on cancer medicines. The programme vision is to create a national cancer intelligence resource capability to provide rapid feedback on findings to inform policy, service delivery, and patient-clinician decision making. CMOP-PHS’s main work is two-fold: linking routine electronic patient healthcare data to report on the use and impact of cancer medicines in Scotland; and future data development through supporting the collection and use of patient reported outcome measures (PROMs). CMOP-PHS co-founded the Scottish Cancer PROMs Advisory Group (SC PROMs AG) to support PROMs collection and implementation in cancer in Scotland. CMOP-PHS publish all work publicly via Public Health Scotland and has a patient and public involvement and engagement (PPIE) element to the programme, ensuring the work we do is collaborative and transparent.

As a Research Associate, under the general guidance of a research leader, you will develop and support research, knowledge exchange and public engagement objectives and activities in relation to these work streams. You will write up research work for publication, individually or in collaboration with colleagues, and disseminate the results via peer reviewed journal publications and presentations at conferences. You will join external networks to share information and ideas, inform the development of research objectives, and identify potential sources of funding. You may collaborate with colleagues to ensure that research advances inform departmental teaching efforts, and you will collaborate with colleagues on the development of knowledge exchange activities by, for example, participating in initiatives which establish research links which may influence public policy and the professions. You will co-supervise student projects, provide advice to students and contribute to teaching as required by, for example, running tutorials and supervising practical work. You will contribute in a developing capacity to Department/School, Faculty and/or University administrative and management functions and committees and engage in continuous professional development.

To be considered for the role, you will be educated to a minimum of PhD level in an appropriate discipline, or have significant relevant experience in addition to a relevant degree, or preferably independent postdoctoral experience. You will have sufficient breadth or depth of knowledge in collaborative ways of working, some qualitative and quantitative data analysis and some experience of / training in PPIE. You will have a developing ability to conduct individual research work, to disseminate results and to prepare research proposals. You will have an ability to plan and organise your own workload effectively and an ability to work within a team environment.
