At James Cook University (JCU), we support world-class research that delivers impact for communities across northern Australia and beyond. We are seeking a proactive and detail-driven Research Data Coordinator to enhance the quality, accessibility and long-term value of JCU’s research data.
About the Role
As the Research Data Coordinator, you will play a key role in strengthening JCU’s research data management services. Working closely with researchers, HDR candidates, academic staff and professional teams, you will provide expert guidance on the effective management, storage, sharing and preservation of research data across the entire research lifecycle.
You’ll contribute to improving systems and processes, develop training and support resources, and promote best practice in data sharing, transparency and compliance.
What you’ll do
- Provide expert advice and hands-on support to researchers and HDR candidates to ensure research data is managed in accordance with national codes, ethical standards and funder/publisher requirements.
- Coordinate services that support data planning, archiving, publication and metadata capture aligned with FAIR data principles and open research practices.
- Enhance JCU’s research data management systems by identifying improvements, collaborating across teams and staying across sector developments.
- Develop training materials, online content and advocacy tools that promote high-quality research data practices across the University.
- Deliver targeted training sessions to build capability in data management, transparency and the reuse of research outputs.
About you
You will bring:
- Relevant qualifications and experience aligned with a HEWL 7 role.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with researchers and stakeholders.
- A solid understanding of the research lifecycle, FAIR principles and the requirements governing research data management.
- Demonstrated ability to provide advice, deliver training and support effective, compliant data practices.
- Well-developed project management and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently and drive continuous improvement.
- (Desirable) Familiarity with metadata standards, data repositories, planning tools or digital research infrastructure.
