Position Highlights
A part-time Research Data Support Specialist II is available in the laboratory of Dr. Alexander Niculescu in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Arizona College of Medicine-Phoenix. The successful candidate is expected to assist with designing and analyzing data within the precision medicine psychiatry laboratory. We are seeking a well-rounded, motivated and enthusiastic individual with prior experience in qPCR, bioinformatic analysis, blood biomarkers, while working in various databases (R, Python) and performing statistical programming (AWS CloudFormation, Stack). This individual should be detailed oriented, conscientious, able to follow instructions, and have the ability to communicate in a clear, concise manner orally and in writing.
This is a sponsored-funded position and, as such, is housed within the College of Medicine-Phoenix, Department of Psychiatry that received the funds. While the role will collaborate closely with UITS, its primary responsibilities and funding structure align with the goals of the sponsor-supported project.

Duties & Responsibilities
- Under Dr. Niculescu's mentorship, the successful incumbent will conduct experiments and surveys using various tests, routines, and analyses, where procedures are clearly defined and results readily determined.
- Assist with qPCR, performing scientific data collections, reductions, and analyses involving routine procedures.
- Preform a variety of bioinformatics analyses to identify blood-based biomarkers for suicidality, psychosis, anxiety, and ADHD using gene expression and phenotypic measures.
- Maintain detailed records of studies conducted, organize data, prepare data for computer input ,and record computer output. Offload data-intensive calculations such as RNA sequencing to the cloud using programs such as, AWS S3, AWS EC2, and Docker.
- Write summaries of projects, documenting findings and procedures used, and assist in writing reports by conducting literature searches and background research, prepare bibliographies as required.
- Compile data and generate computerized statistical data for analytical purposes using software packages and AI, make preliminary analyses and assist in interpreting the data.
- Conduct library searches to find research information on related procedures and techniques that can be used in the laboratory.
- Assist with mentoring and training students/staff into the workings and processes of the lab.

- Detailed oriented, conscientious, and able to follow instructions.
- Knowledge of the principles and techniques of the subject discipline.
- Knowledge of modern research methods, data collection and analyses.
- Skill in analyzing and evaluating data.

Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or high school diploma equivalency is required.
- Three (3) years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a field of science or similar degree.
- Previous research experience (internship, independent study).
- Experience with qPCR.
- Experience supporting development used for data analytics.
- Experience utilizing R Studio, MS Excel, MS Access, Partek Flow, & Python.
