Position Highlights

The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine in the College of Medicine - Tucson is seeking a Research Development Professional to support growing research activity in the department. The selected candidate will possess basic knowledge of University systems and will work under the guidance and direction of the Vice Chair for Research. The candidate will support multiple investigators and the department in the grant and contract writing process with multiple funding agencies, including identification of funding opportunities, proposal review and preparation, editing and proofreading content to align with intra- and extramural proposal requirements, and coordination with principal investigators, department administration, and sponsored projects for timely submission. Other duties include day-to-day operational and administrative activities for the Vice Chair for Research, compiling and analyzing data, and providing input for department programs related to grant writing and proposal development.

Duties & Responsibilities

Non-technical writing support for research investigators:

  • Helps identify, develop, prepare, and provide editing and proofreading of proposals including but not limited to: grant applications, sponsor compliance and resource requirements, Internal Review Board (IRB) proposals, Materials Transfer Agreements (MTA), Data Use Agreements (DUA), manuscripts, conference papers, journal articles, abstracts, book chapters, and contracts.
  • Liaises with pre- and post-award divisions within the Sponsored Projects Support (SPS) office.
  • Assists with administrative and technical reports to sponsors.

Administrative support to the Vice Chair for Research:

  • Schedule and coordinate meetings, maintain calendars, serve as a contact for internal and external stakeholders.
  • May assist with grant writing and proposal development workshops and training.
  • Compile and analyze data and prepare reports related to department administration.
  • Assist faculty/staff on how to find reliable content and references.
  • Provide back-up to other department administrative roles such as Executive Assistants and Health and Medical Education Professionals as needed.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Editing/proofing skills and content/resource/reference management (such as EndNote).
  • Skill in preparing documents on a timely basis.
  • Ability to work in close collaboration and independently.
  • Previous experience with UA enterprise systems such as UAccess Research, Analytics, RedCap, Qualtrics, Financial, Student, and Employee.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience required.
  • Minimum of 1 year of demonstrated experience with grant, contract, and publication language, proofreading, and editing, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Two years of demonstrated experience with grant, contract, and publication language, proofreading, and editing.
