The Brain, Behavior and Neuromodulation team at the Grenoble Institute of Neurosciences (GIN, Inserm U1216, Université Grenoble Alpes) is recruiting a Research Engineer in Cognitive Neuroscience and Human Neurophysiology.
The successful candidate will develop, maintain and document scientific software and reproducible pipelines for the processing, standardisation, visualisation and analysis of human intracranial electrophysiological data, including intracranial EEG (iEEG/SEEG), local field potentials (LFPs) and single-unit recordings.
The position has a strong focus on scientific software development in Python, data engineering and signal processing. A major objective will be to further develop tools initiated within the team, including GIN2BIDS for the conversion and standardisation of intracranial electrophysiological datasets according to the international BIDS standard, and BIDSForge for reproducible processing and analysis workflows. The team’s open-source developments are available at: https://github.com/GIN-iEEG.
The Research Engineer will also contribute to the development of pipelines for microelectrode and single-unit recordings, including integration with tools such as SpikeInterface, and to multi-scale analyses linking single-neuron activity, neuronal population dynamics and macroscopic electrophysiological signals. Depending on the scientific projects, this may include time-frequency analyses, event detection, spike-field coupling/coherence, multivariate analyses, dimensionality reduction and statistical modelling.
An important component of the position will be to ensure the interoperability and reproducibility of the tools developed in Grenoble and their integration with software and infrastructures developed by national and European partners. The work will therefore involve close interactions with researchers and engineers involved in intracranial electrophysiology, including collaborations within EBRAINS.
The Research Engineer will be responsible for software quality and sustainability, including code architecture, version control, testing, dependency management, documentation and the development of interfaces that facilitate the use of these tools by neuroscientists who are not software-development specialists. The successful candidate will also contribute to training and supporting PhD students, postdoctoral researchers, engineers and clinicians in the use of these pipelines.
The position is based at the Grenoble Institute of Neurosciences, in close interaction with the Grenoble Alpes University Hospital (CHUGA). The team studies the neural mechanisms underlying decision-making and motivation in humans, combining intracranial electrophysiology, single-unit recordings, brain stimulation and computational approaches in neurological and psychiatric populations.
The position is particularly suited to candidates with a strong background in Python programming, scientific software development, data analysis or signal processing. Previous experience with electrophysiological or neurophysiological data (EEG, MEG, iEEG/SEEG, LFP or single-unit recordings) is highly desirable but not mandatory. A PhD is not required; excellent programming skills and demonstrated experience in scientific software development are considered key selection criteria.
Preferred starting date: 1 November 2026. The initial contract will be for one year, renewable for up to three years in total.

Skills/Qualifications
The successful candidate should have strong programming skills, with advanced proficiency in Python and demonstrated experience in scientific software development, data-processing pipelines or reproducible analysis workflows.
The following skills are particularly relevant:
- scientific programming and software development in Python;
- software architecture, version control (Git/GitHub or equivalent), testing, documentation and dependency management;
- Linux environments and standard scientific computing tools;
- signal processing, time-series analysis and statistics;
- ability to develop robust, modular and reusable software;
- ability to translate scientific requirements into technical and software solutions.
Experience with electrophysiological or neurophysiological data (EEG, MEG, iEEG/SEEG, LFP or single-unit recordings) is highly desirable.
Experience with BIDS, SpikeInterface, MNE-Python, multivariate analyses, dimensionality reduction, machine learning or neuronal population analyses would be an advantage.
Specific Requirements
We are looking for a candidate with a strong interest in scientific software development and quantitative neuroscience, who is autonomous, rigorous and proactive.
The position involves close interactions with researchers, engineers, PhD students, postdoctoral researchers and clinicians. The successful candidate should therefore be comfortable working in a multidisciplinary and international environment and should be able to communicate technical concepts clearly to users with different levels of programming expertise.
A very good command of written and spoken English is required.
Knowledge of French is an advantage but is not required.
Previous experience in neuroscience is desirable but not mandatory for candidates with particularly strong expertise in programming, scientific computing or signal processing.

The position provides the opportunity to:
- work with rare human intracranial datasets, including iEEG/SEEG, LFP and single-unit recordings;
- contribute to open-source scientific software used for human intracranial neuroscience;
- collaborate with clinical teams at Grenoble Alpes University Hospital (CHUGA);
- interact with national and European partners, including collaborations within EBRAINS;
- contribute to the development of tools intended to be shared across the European intracranial neuroscience community;
- participate in scientific meetings, workshops and international collaborations.
The initial appointment will be for one year, renewable for up to three years in total.
Salary will depend on the candidate's previous professional experience and qualifications and will be determined by the Human Resources Department of Université Grenoble Alpes according to the applicable salary scale. For early-career profiles, the expected gross monthly remuneration is approximately €2,500–€3,300 including the monthly allowance, subject to final HR assessment.
Eligibility criteria
Applicants should hold at least a Master's degree or engineering degree (Bac+5 equivalent) in one of the following or a related quantitative field:
- computer science;
- scientific computing;
- data science;
- signal processing;
- neuroengineering;
- bioinformatics;
- computational neuroscience.
A PhD is not required. Candidates holding a PhD are also eligible, provided that their profile includes strong expertise in scientific programming and software development.
Both recent graduates and candidates with approximately 2–5 years (or more) of professional experience are encouraged to apply.
Demonstrated programming ability, particularly in Python, will be a major selection criterion.
