Research Facility Manager: Small Angle X-ray Scattering

The University of Glasgow has been changing the world for more than 575 years, and we are one of the world's top 100 universities, ranked 12th in the world in the Times Higher Education (THE) World Impact Rankings 2025, demonstrating that we are not only one of the best universities in the United Kingdom, but one of the best universities for the world. Our people have always been at the forefront of innovation, and our past achievements inspire our current world changers.

You will play a key role in exciting developments within the Materials Characterisation Hub (MATCH); a grouping of research facilities and technical specialists within the College of Science and Engineering. With the imminent arrival of a state-of-the-art Small-Angle X-ray Scattering (SAXS) instrument, the establishment of a SAXS research facility will expand the advanced capabilities of MATCH, positioned at the forefront of materials research in a dynamic and collaborative environment.

This is an excellent opportunity for a Research Facility Manager: Small Angle X-ray Scattering to join a team of research technical professionals (RTPs) at the start of this exciting development. In this role you will oversee the installation, and lead the set-up, and subsequent day-to-day running and management of the newly established small angle X-ray scattering (SAXS) facility within the Materials Characterisation Hub.

You will provide comprehensive management and senior technical leadership of the SAXS research facility and build and provide support to a diverse user base, including PIs, researchers, postgraduate and undergraduate students and external users (both academic and commercial) across a broad range of research areas including chemistry, engineering and life sciences.

You will provide specialist technical expertise in SAXS, WAXS and related scattering experiments including rheo-SAXS, USAXS and GIWAXS, and associated use of a range of non-ambient sample environments. You will be responsible for the planning/design/delivery and safe operation of this specialist technical research facility to optimise research output.
