RESEARCH FELLOW
The Laboratory of Spatial Systems Biology, led by Dr. Yang Xiao in the Department of Pathology at the University of Michigan Medical School, invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow position. Our highly interdisciplinary lab focuses on investigating genetic and epigenetic changes in traumatic brain injury. The successful candidate will work on animal models of brain injuries and apply cutting-edge spatial multi-omic sequencing to study the cellular and molecular changes. The role involves both experimental and computational work under the supervision of the Principal Investigator.
Please submit the following:
- Your CV.
- Contact information for three references.
- A cover letter describing:
- Why joining the Xiao Lab would enhance your training.
- How your existing skills and training could contribute to the lab.
- Exciting research projects or future directions you would like to pursue.
We look forward to your application.
Responsibilities:
- Collect and process tissue samples towards histopathology and spatial sequencing experiments.
- Extract RNA/ DNA from tissues and prepare sequencing libraries.
- Analyze spatial sequencing data using Python or R.
- Perform rodent neurosurgeries, such as craniotomy and cerebral microdialysis.
- Conduct rodent surgical injection techniques, including intracranial injections, intravenous injections, and oral gavage.
- Design, revise and maintain animal protocols.
- Perform photoacoustic imaging of the mouse brain.
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of experimental procedures and results.
- Collaborate with and assist other lab members on related projects.
- Follow and maintain laboratory protocols and procedures.
Required Qualifications:
- PhD degree in Biomedical Engineering, Pathology, Bioinformatics, Electrical Engineering or a related field.
- At least 5 years of research experience in biology or a related discipline.
- Publication record demonstrating computational skills in image processing or genomic data analysis.
- Proficiency in rodent neurosurgeries.
- Familiar with Linux OS, virtual environment working and batch scripting.
