The Department of Epidemiology at the University of Michigan, School of Public Health (UM) is seeking a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow to join multiple projects in LGBTQ+ health equity, specializing in transgender and gender diverse population health, led by Dr. Sari Reisner. The projects are focused on HIV prevention, mental health, community-engaged research methods, and the social and contextual factors that shape health and contribute to health inequities.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to develop a mentored research agenda while contributing to ongoing studies. Core responsibilities include: leading and co-authoring peer-reviewed manuscripts; designing and conducting quantitative and/or qualitative data analyses; contributing to grant writing and the development of new research proposals; presenting findings at scientific conferences; supporting community engagement and recruitment activities; and mentoring students. The person who fills this position should have interest in LGBTQ+ health equity and thrive collaborating with interdisciplinary and multisite public health teams. This position offers ample opportunities for training, professional development, and career advancement in academic research.

  • 25% Grant Development and Research Design: Contribute to the development of grant proposals, including writing specific aims, background sections, and research methods. Support the preparation of progress reports for funded projects. Participate in the conceptualization and design of new research studies. Assist with IRB protocol preparation and submissions.
  • 20% Data Management: Manage the programming, organization, documentation, merging, cleaning, and storage of datasets. Create and document final analytic datasets. Compile and organize survey measures and data collection instruments. Contribute to the development and validation of study measures.
  • 15% Mentorship and Community Engagement: Provide mentorship and guidance to graduate students and trainees. Participate in community engagement activities, including community advisory board meetings and stakeholder communications. Contribute to recruitment and data collection activities as needed. Participate in lab meetings and collaborative research discussions.
  • Other research duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications: Doctoral degree (PhD, DrPH, ScD, or equivalent) in Epidemiology, Public Health, or a related health sciences discipline. Demonstrated experience with quantitative data analysis and proficiency with at least one statistical programming language (R, SAS, Python, etc.). Strong record of scholarly productivity, including peer-reviewed publications. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team-oriented research environment.

Preferred Qualifications: Experience with both quantitative and qualitative research methods. First-author publications in peer-reviewed journals. Experience with grant writing or contributing to funded research proposals. Background in LGBTQ+ health, HIV prevention, and/or mental health research. Experience with community-engaged research methods. Experience mentoring students or junior research staff. Familiarity with REDCap, Qualtrics, or similar data collection platforms.

This is a one-year, term-limited position, with the possibility of extension dependent on funding and performance.
