Applications are sought for a committed Post-doctoral Research Fellow to work with Prof Patrick Miller conducting research for a NATO navy funded project entitled “3S4 – effects of naval sonar on killer whales and humpback whales.” The primary duties will be to conduct research activities to support the research goals of the 3S4 project. Specific duties will include processing multi-variate datasets from animal-attached tags (both killer whales and humpback whales), AIS vessel tracking data, and fisheries data to produce standardized plots for data visualisation. The same datasets will be analysed to describe killer whale interactions with fishing vessels, and creation of time-series statistical models to quantify killer whale behaviour.
The successful applicant will have a PhD in Biology with expertise in Marine Mammal Science, Marine Bioacoustics, and Animal Behaviour.
The post is available for 12 months starting 01 April 2026 or as soon as possible thereafter.
