Job Description

The School of Information and Communication Technology at Griffith University is a leading school for education and research in digital technologies. It offers innovative programs across areas such as artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, data science, software engineering, computer networking, and intelligent systems. With a strong emphasis on industry engagement and real-world applications, the School prepares graduates with the practical skills and knowledge needed to succeed in an increasingly dynamic and technology-driven world.

As a Research Fellow, you’ll contribute to the ARC Discovery Project “Spectral-spatial-temporal object tracking in hyperspectral videos

This ARC Discovery project aims to advance video processing systems through the development of hyperspectral object detection and tracking methods. Focused on challenging scenarios faced by conventional camera systems, this research harnesses the capability of hyperspectral video cameras in material identification within and beyond the visible spectrum to capture and model the spectral, spatial, and temporal information for object tracking. Expected outcomes include the formulation of novel methods for material identification, spatial distribution mapping, spectral-structural feature extraction, and their integration into temporal tracking models. This promises to reshape video processing, benefiting agriculture, environment, and transportation sectors.

The Research Fellow position will focus 80% on the ARC Discovery Project and there will also be a 20% teaching component, which involves teaching into the School of Information and Communication Technology.

The position will be responsible for:

  • Conducting research aligned with the ARC Discovery project goals, including developing novel hyperspectral video processing and analysis methods, and spectral-spatial-temporal machine learning models.
  • Conducting laboratory/fieldwork research to collect hyperspectral video data and build datasets.
  • Applying the developed methods to a variety of agricultural, environmental, and health applications.
  • Maintaining a good publication record in high impact, international, esteemed peer-reviewed journals and to seek competitive funding.
  • Contributing to teaching activities of the School, including convenorship of undergraduate courses.
  • Assisting with mentoring and supervision of higher degree research candidates.

Qualifications

Applicants for this position will hold a PhD or equivalent qualifications in the field of Computer Science, Electronic Engineering, Remote Sensing or other relevant disciplines.

You will also have:

  • Demonstrated experience in developing novel hyperspectral video processing and analysis methods, including spectral-spatial-temporal machine learning models.
  • A track record of publication in high-impact journals.
  • Demonstrated ability to contribute to inter-disciplinary research while ensuring effective team communication and collaboration.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and with minimal supervision to meet competing deadlines and work effectively as a member of a team and communicate with a range of stakeholders.
