The role

We are seeking to appoint a talented researcher with experience in quantitative analysis to work on a NIHR-funded evaluation of new NHS England pilot service models for accessing obesity medication. This is an exciting project which will lead to policy impact through providing evidence to inform the roll-out of improved treatment options for obesity. The project is jointly led by a multidisciplinary team from the Universities of Bristol, Plymouth and Exeter, with the quantitative elements of the project led by the University of Bristol. The post will be situated within the Health Economics and Health Policy (HEHP@Bristol; https://www.bristol.ac.uk/population-health-sciences/centres/healthecon/) research group within Population Health Sciences, Bristol Medical School. The postholder will work closely with colleagues at Applied Research Collaboration West (ARC West; https://arc-w.nihr.ac.uk/about-arc-west/).

The post is 60% FTE (21 hrs per week), based in the University of Bristol, and starting ideally in April/May 2025, with funding available until January 2028.

What will you be doing?

The postholder will undertake analysis and interpretation of data and writing up the findings for publications. They will also be involved in setting up and managing a survey in REDCAP, developing code lists, completing ethics and data access applications, information governance for routinely collected datasets, and preparation of datasets. We offer professional development through our highly regarded programme of short courses in research methods, which are available free of charge to all staff (https://www.bristol.ac.uk/medical-school/study/short-courses/).

You should apply if

The appointee will have a PhD in medical statistics, epidemiology or a related discipline with a strong statistical component. A candidate with an MSc in medical statistics or epidemiology with substantial research experience and a good publication record would be considered. They will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and experience of working within a multi-disciplinary team.
