ABOUT THE ROLE

We are looking for an inspirational and effective individual with substantial experience in physical experimentation to join the CAVE Urban Air Quality and Fluid Mechanics Research Group for a two-year research project on Wildfire Indoor Safety and Environmental Resilience. The CAVE Urban Air Quality and Fluid Mechanics Research Group run the CAVE laboratory, which is a unique and large-scale (216 sqm footprint by 9.5 m high) air quality, environmental and ventilation laboratory.

The chief purpose of the job is to develop and sustain a high level of research in the field of wildfires, building fires and air quality hazards.

The project is experiment-based and will take place in the CAVE laboratory. The role would involve working with other CAVE laboratory users in their research and industry activities, and supporting PhD, MSc and MEng students working in the lab. The role would also include a limited amount of teaching.

Hybrid Worker working between 50% and 80% of time on-site

ABOUT YOU

  • Undergraduate qualification graded at equivalent First Class level in engineering or relevant subject area
  • PhD in a relevant field in Mechanical Engineering, Combustion Science, or relevant subject area
  • Advanced experimental skills, including particle detection, optical diagnostics, experimental setup design and build, gas and particle release mechanisms
  • Experience of working as a research fellow or PhD student in an advanced laboratory
  • Experience in experiment design including concept, design, building and installation of experimental instruments
