Join The Poche Centre for Indigenous Health, part of the University of Sydney, a leading centre dedicated to advancing research, policy, and practice in Indigenous health. The Poche Centre brings together a dynamic team of researchers, clinicians, and collaborators working to generate impactful knowledge, inform policy, and improve health outcomes across communities.

We are seeking a talented researcher to join our team. The appointment will be at either Research Fellow (Level B) or Senior Research Fellow (Level C), depending on your experience, research profile, and leadership achievements. In this role, you will conduct high-quality research, publish in peer-reviewed journals, present at conferences, and contribute to competitive research funding applications. You will engage in collaborative and translational research, fostering partnerships that deliver meaningful outcomes to policy, practice, industry, or the community.

The role offers opportunities to mentor and support postgraduate students or early-career researchers, participate in faculty and school governance, and contribute to a positive, collaborative workplace culture. This position provides a platform to further develop your research profile, expand professional networks, and make a significant contribution to the University's strategic objectives in Indigenous health research.

Your key responsibilities as a Research Fellow (Level B):

  • Conduct high-quality, independent or collaborative research, producing publications, conference presentations, and contributing to funding applications.
  • Maintain a strong research profile through peer-reviewed journal articles, book chapters, and conference or seminar contributions.
  • Develop research collaborations and engage in translational research that drives knowledge or technology transfer, policy improvements, or benefits to industry and community.
  • Contribute to competitive research grant applications and secure funding to support impactful research outcomes.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to early-career researchers and supervise postgraduate students or research projects where appropriate.
  • Participate in faculty or school administrative activities, committees, and events, contributing to a positive and collaborative workplace culture.

In addition to the above, your key responsibilities as a Senior Research Fellow (Level C):

  • Lead innovative and independent research that advances knowledge and strengthens the discipline's research profile.
  • Secure competitive research funding and pursue diverse opportunities to generate research income.
  • Build strategic partnerships and collaborations to support translational research and deliver meaningful research impact.
  • Contribute to the governance, service and strategic priorities of the school or faculty, including participation in committees and community engagement activities.

About you as a Research Fellow (Level B):

  • Completed PhD in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health, Mental Health, Social and Emotional Wellbeing.
  • Proven experience conducting original research and contributing to scholarly activity, with a developing national or international research profile.
  • Experience supervising and mentoring postgraduate students or early-career researchers.
  • A developing network of academic, industry and professional partners and stakeholders to support collaboration and research impact.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse audiences.
  • Highly organised with strong planning, research, and computer literacy skills to manage research projects and administrative responsibilities.

  • An established national reputation for influential research that expands knowledge within the discipline.
  • Significant experience conducting original research and contributing to scholarly activity.
  • A strong network of academic, industry and professional partners and stakeholders that can be leveraged to enhance collaboration and research impact.
