About The Team
The Personalised Medicine Centre is a joint initiative between Murdoch University and the Perron Institute, bringing together leading researchers and clinicians to advance personalised medicine. Our multidisciplinary team is dedicated to developing tailored treatments based on individual genetic and lifestyle factors. We focus on a wide range of critical health challenges, including genetic therapies, genomics, motor neurone disease, sepsis, immunogenomics, drug hypersensitivity, cognitive health, muscular dystrophy, and neurodegenerative disorders such as Parkinson’s disease, myositis, and multiple sclerosis.
Your New Role!
The Research Fellow is expected to develop scholarly research outputs and professional activities relevant to the discipline. The position contributes to the teaching effort of the Discipline through supervision of honours and postgraduate students and is expected to perform a range of administrative and service functions within the College and across the University.
Your key responsibilities will include –
- Develop and perform research into the manipulation of transcript splicing to modify gene expression for therapeutic outcomes, using antisense oligomer-based techniques and a variety of in vitro and in vivo approaches.
- Develop and perform specialised and complex laboratory procedures, including brain and spinal cord tissue processing, RNA in situ hybridisation assays and co-immunostaining to assess oligomer biodistribution in the central nervous systems.
- Contribute to research projects individually and as a member of a team, examine and interpret results and their significance and produce quality publications.
- Make applications for external competitive research funds, individually and as a member of a team.
- Undertake independent research of quality that aligns with Murdoch’s strategic vision and provide leadership in the field of neurodegenerative diseases.
- Develop a scholarly research profile and professional expertise relevant to the profession of discipline.
- Supervise honours, Masters by Coursework, and HDR students.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant literature and play a role in the education of others in the Centre.

What you’ll bring to the role:
- PhD in an area relevant to appointment.
- Demonstrated experience in the research discipline or profession, or two or more years of postdoctoral or equivalent professional experience.
- Ability to work under broad direction only, exercise initiative in undertaking responsibilities and work effectively as a team member.
- Ability to engage in high quality independent research, with an established record of scholarly publications.
- Capacity to produce grant applications, with a track record in the generation of research funding, either independently or as part of a research team.
- Ability to engage in high quality independent research, with an established record of scholarly publications.
- Demonstrated ability and commitment to successfully assist with the supervision of honours, postgraduate and HDR students.
- High levels of written and oral communication skills in English.
