Research Fellow or Senior Research Fellow
About This Opportunity
The Poche Centre for Indigenous Health is seeking a Research Fellow or Senior Research Fellow to join Professor Abdullah Mamun’s Indigenous‑led Lifecourse Research Program. This program brings together a suite of seven interconnected research projects focused on improving health and wellbeing outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples through community‑driven, strengths‑based, and culturally safe research.
The role contributes to research that adopts a life‑course approach to the early detection, prevention, and management of non‑communicable diseases, including rheumatic heart disease, with a strong emphasis on maternal, child, and family health. Central to the position is working in partnership with Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations (ACCHOs) and Indigenous communities across rural and remote Australia, embedding co‑design and meaningful consumer and community engagement across all stages of research. Regular travel to rural and remote communities is an expected and valued part of the role.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Research: Lead qualitative research and consumer and community engagement activities across multiple projects within Professor Mamun’s Lifecourse Research Program; contribute to Indigenous‑led, co‑designed research; support the development and management of research funding; publish in reputable journals; and apply best‑practice, culturally safe research methodologies.
- Supervision and Researcher Development: Supervise and mentor higher degree research students and early‑career researchers, and support capability building across community‑controlled services, with a focus on Indigenous‑led, qualitative, co‑designed, and community‑engaged research practices.
- Citizenship and Service: Build and sustain partnerships with Indigenous communities and sector stakeholders; demonstrate leadership through mentoring; contribute to internal service roles and committees; support colleagues; and uphold University values.
This is a research focused position.
