Research Fellow (Quality and Safety)

Research Fellow (Quality and Safety)

University of Leeds - Faculty of Medicine & Health - School of Healthcare

Are you an ambitious academic with a passion for applied health and care research? Do you want to work with world-leading academics and contribute to improving health and care services for patients, service users and staff? Do you want to further your career in one of the UK’s leading research-intensive Universities?

We are looking for a Research Fellow (Quality and Safety) aligned with our world-leading research. The School of Healthcare is investing in research capacity and capability to conduct impactful applied health and care research of the highest quality, making a positive difference to society. You will work closely with colleagues in our School research teams to deliver our ambitious research portfolio. Research in the School focuses on two themes, ‘Quality and Safety’ and ‘Ageing Well’. This role is primarily aligned to the Quality and Safety theme, but will also involve collaborating with colleagues aligned to Ageing Well.

We focus on questions that enhance quality of life, care and outcomes for people accessing care, and/or the quality of work for health and care staff. Examples include: synthesising literature to identify research gaps with respect to medicines use and safety, and patient safety; co-design and implementation of resources to enhance care, outcomes, quality and safety; research to understand and support the role of patients and staff in relation to medicines safety and patient safety. Our methods include: systematic literature reviews; qualitative, quantitative and mixed methods studies; complex intervention development; evaluation of interventions, including trials. We don't just “do research”; a key part of our work is developing capacity and skills and mobilising knowledge - working with the right people (people accessing health and care, their families, staff, providers, commissioners) to make a difference in practice and policy. We will expect you to be willing to work with our range of partners and be flexible in your approach. Research inclusion and undertaking research with and for underserved populations is also a major focus.

Primarily focussing on research, you will work closely with colleagues to help lead and deliver existing research. You will have a key role in grant writing, ensuring we continue to lead research through sustained income generation.

With a PhD (or be near to submitting a PhD) in a subject area relating to applied health and care research, you will be able to demonstrate experience in a relevant health or care setting.

What we offer in return

  • 26 days' holiday plus approx.16 Bank Holidays/days that the University is closed by custom (including Christmas) – that’s 42 days a year!
  • Generous pension scheme plus life assurance– the University contributes 14.5% of salary
