A call is open for the award of 1 (one) Research Fellowship (BI) for a Bachelor degree holder enrolled in a cycle of studies leading to a Master degree, within the research project DNXT.AI – Solução integrativa de inteligência artificial para automatização de polimento de diamantes, operation code COMPETE2030-FEDER-03398500 (n.º 26494), funded by the COMPETE 2030 Programme through Portugal 2030 and the European Union. The fellowship will be hosted by C-MAST – Centre for Mechanical and Aerospace Science and Technologies and the Department of Electromechanical Engineering of the University of Beira Interior, under the following conditions:

Objectives:
This work aims to design, model, develop and experimentally validate the physical structure to be coupled to the robotic arm for image acquisition during diamond polishing. It includes mechanical integration with the robotic arm and imaging system, preparation of experimental tests, and collection and organisation of technical data, contributing to the consolidation and dissemination of the project results.
Work plan:
- Technical and scientific review of requirements and solutions for the mechanical integration of an image-acquisition system with a robotic arm;
- Design and three-dimensional modelling of the physical structure and the interfaces with the robotic arm and imaging equipment;
- Support for material and component selection, dimensioning, manufacturing and assembly of the structure;
- Mechanical integration and experimental validation of the solution, including test preparation and the collection and organisation of technical data;
- Documentation of results, preparation of a technical report, and participation in project dissemination and promotion activities;
- Support for Communication, Dissemination and Exploitation of Results;
- The expected result of the research work requires at least 1 publication in an international conference and 1 in an international peer-reviewed journal during the grant period.

Work location:
The work will be carried out at the LITecS – Laboratory of Innovation and Technologies in Sustainability/C-MAST – Centre for Mechanical and Aerospace Science and Technologies and the Department of Electromechanical Engineering of the University of Beira Interior, under the scientific supervision of Professor Pedro Miguel de Figueiredo Dinis Oliveira Gaspar (dinis@ubi.pt).
Fellowship duration and conditions: The fellowship will have a duration of 11 months and is expected to start in November 2026. The activity will be carried out under an exclusive dedication regime, in accordance with the RBIUBI.

Benefits
A monthly maintenance allowance of €1.090,98 will be granted in accordance with Annex I of the RBIUBI and the updated values available at https://www.fct.pt/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/Tabela-de-Valores-SMM-2026.pdf. This amount is supplemented by personal accident insurance and, where the fellow opts in, voluntary social insurance, under the applicable rules.

Selection process
The selection and ranking of the candidates will be carried out in the first phase based on the following parameters and on a scale from 0 to 20: A - Curriculum vitae (30%); B - Suitability of the candidates’ profile to the project based on the relevant work experience in the tasks described in the work plan (60%); C - Fluency in oral and written English (10%).
A second evaluation phase, consisting of an interview, which can be done by video conference, will assess their profile as a researcher, which will take into account aspects such as specific knowledge and proven experience in the field, motivation, availability, commitment, among other aspects. The final classification will be calculated as the average between the classification obtained in the first phase (50% weighting) and the classification obtained in the interview (50% weighting), and expressed in the scale of 0 to 20 points.

Complaint and appeal procedures:
After notification of the provisional lists for each stage of the selection procedure (admission and exclusion, and curricular assessment), candidates have 10 working days to submit comments as part of the prior hearing of interested parties, under Articles 121 et seq. of the Portuguese Code of Administrative Procedure. If comments are submitted, the final decision will be issued after they have been considered. Once the statutory period of 10 working days has elapsed, the proposed final classification and ranking will become definitive.
