Offer Description
A call is open for the award of 1 research grant for a PhD student within the scope of the SATCOMM Project - Sustainable Atlantic Communities, Ref. EAPA_0019/2022, co-financed by the INTERREG ATLANTIC AREA [contact details available in the full listing] Program through the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) under the following conditions.
1. SCIENTIFIC AREA
Electrical Engineering.
2. ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
This grant is intended for candidates who cumulatively:
- hold a master’s or bachelor’s degree in computer engineering or equivalent;
- are enrolled in a doctoral programme in electrical engineering by the time of contracting;
- have research experience in topics related to the proposed work plan.
3. DURATION
The grant will last for 6 months, with an expected start in September 2026, and may be renewable up to the limit provided for in the ISEP Research Grants Regulation (RBI-ISEP), or until the end of the project, whichever occurs first
4. SCOPE OF ACTIVITY / WORK PLAN
The work plan will be carried out on an exclusive basis, in accordance with the Research Grants Regulation of the Foundation for Science and Technology, approved by Regulation no. 950/2019, and the ISEP Research Grants Regulation.
The work plan will be integrated into the SATCOMM project and involves the following tasks:
- Design, adaptation, implementation and integration of computational applications or models, according to the needs of the project in which the grant is framed;
- Testing and validation of the applications or models using realistic case studies, laboratory prototypes and pilot implementation, according to the needs of the project in which the grant is framed;
- Active participation in meetings within the scope of the grant, with the supervisor and the research group team and, where applicable, within the scope of the project in which the grant is framed;
- Collaboration in scientific papers, project deliverables or scientific reports;
- Preparation and delivery to the supervisor of the reports, foreseen or requested, on the activities developed within the scope of the grant, including the final activity report;
- Provision of all data, models, software source code, diagrams and figures used, prepared and developed within the scope of the grant, as well as the manuals required for their use.
5. APPLICABLE LEGISLATION AND REGULATIONS
Research Fellow Statute, approved by Law no. 40/2004, of 18 August; Research Grants Regulation of the Foundation for Science and Technology, approved by Regulation no. 950/2019, published in the 2nd Series - Part C of the Diário da República of 16 December 2019; ISEP Research Grants Regulation; Decree-Law no. 66/2018, published in Diário da República no. 157/2018, Series I, of 16 August, which approves the legal regime for the recognition of academic degrees and higher education diplomas awarded by foreign higher education institutions; and Decree-Law no. 60/2018, of 3 August, which simplifies the administrative procedures required for the pursuit of research and development activities, all in their current wording.
6. SCIENTIFIC SUPERVISION AND PLACE OF WORK
The work will be carried out at ISEP, located at Rua Dr. António Bernardino de Almeida, 431, 4200-072 Porto – Portugal, in the facilities used by the projects in which the work is framed, under the scientific supervision of Professors Sérgio Ramos and João Soares.
7. MONTHLY MAINTENANCE ALLOWANCE
Monthly grant amount: €1,359.64, paid by bank transfer (in accordance with the FCT table of values: https://www.fct.pt/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/Tabela-de-Valores-SMM-2026.pdf), supported by PAD no. C73101.
8. SELECTION METHODS AND COMPOSITION OF THE JURY
The selection method will take into account the merit of the candidate, graded according to its suitability to the conditions of this call, assessed through the following components:
- Curricular and Documentary Assessment (60%);
- Interview and Motivation Assessment (40%).
The interview will be conducted with all admitted candidates and may be held in English at the request of either party.
The jury responsible for the selection process will be composed of:
- Dr. João André Pinto Soares, (Chair);
- Professor Sérgio Filipe Carvalho Ramos, (Member);
- Dr. Ricardo Francisco Marques Faia, (Member);
- and, as substitute member, Dr. Fernando Lezama Cruzvillasante, (Substitute member).
9. FORM OF SUBMISSION OF APPLICATIONS
Applications must be formalized, obligatorily, by email sent to jan@isep.ipp.pt with a copy to scr@isep.ipp.pt and rff@isep.ipp.pt, by sending the following documents:
- Motivation Letter;
- Curriculum Vitae;
- Academic certificate / Document proving the holding of the academic degree and diploma, and of its recognition when awarded by foreign higher education institutions, or document proving that recognition has been requested;
- Proof of enrolment in a doctoral programme;
- Other supporting documents considered relevant.
If the qualification was awarded by a foreign higher education institution, it must comply with the provisions of Decree-Law no. 66/2018, of 16 August, and any formalities established therein must be fulfilled by the time of contracting.
10. DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSION OF APPLICATIONS
Applications will be accepted from September 15 through September 28, 2026.
11. FORM OF PUBLICATION/NOTIFICATION OF RESULTS
The evaluation results will be disclosed by email, to the email address indicated in the application process.
12. COMPLAINT AND APPEAL PROCEDURES
If the outcome is unfavourable, candidates have a period of 10 working days, after the disclosure of the results of the evaluation of applications, to comment, if they so wish, in a prior hearing of interested parties, under the terms provided for in the Administrative Procedure Code.
An appeal to the Director of ISEP may be lodged against the final decision referred to in the preceding paragraphs within 15 working days after the respective notification.
13. SELECTION RESERVE (OPTIONAL)
ISEP reserves the right to resort to the non-selected candidates, in ranking order, for the contracting of a grant holder within the scope of the same project in the event of withdrawal of the initially selected candidate.
