Offer Description
A call for applications is open for one (1) Research Grant within the scope of the project “NaturExVR – Exposure to Nature through Virtual Reality”, reference 2025.03583.MAD, funded by the Foundation for Science and Technology, I.P./MECI, through national funds (PIDDAC), under the following conditions.
- Scientific area: Design; Graphic Design; Interactive Media Design; Human-Computer Interaction; or similar.
- Admission requirements:
- Master's degree in one of the scientific areas mentioned above, enrolled in a PhD program or non-degree course, in an area relevant to the grant.
- Good 2D and 3D design skills and/or 3D environments.
- Basic knowledge of photography.
- Basic knowledge of game development.
- Work plan:
a. Work Program
- Synchronization with partners.
- Literature review and state-of-the-art review (long-term task overlapping with several program elements).
- Development of a prototype and its respective study.
- Development of a virtual reality experience focusing on scenarios and design.
- Implementation of narratives.
- Implementation of adaptations for young people and the elderly.
- Conducting several studies (overlaps with several program elements).
- Dissemination of results through the writing of scientific articles (overlaps with several program elements).
- Dissemination of results through the writing of scientific articles.
b. Resources
- Development computer.
- Virtual reality hardware.
- Photogrammetry equipment.
- Resources and location provided by partners with access for real users.
- Applicable legislation and regulations: Research Grant Holder Statute in its current wording and Research Grant Regulations of the University of Madeira, Research Grant Regulations of FCT, IP in its current wording.
- Location of Supervision: The work will be developed at the Faculty of Exact Sciences and Engineering of the University of Madeira, under the scientific supervision of Prof. Dr. Mara Sofia Gomes Dionísio and co-supervision of Prof. Dr. Hildegardo José Quintal Noronha.
- Duration of the Scholarship: The scholarship will last for 12 months. The scholarship contract may be renewed for a maximum of 36 months, or until the end of the project.
- Monthly Maintenance Allowance: The scholarship amount corresponds to €1,359.64, according to the FCT, I.P. scholarship value table in Portugal. The scholarship holder may also apply for the first tier of Voluntary Social Security in the amount of R$ 158.99.
- Funding: The scholarship awarded under this competition will be funded by the project “NaturExVR – Exhibition to Nature through Virtual Reality”, reference 2025.03583.MAD, funded by the Foundation for Science and Technology, I.P./MECI, through national funds (PIDDAC).
- Selection Methods: The selection methods to be used will be the following: curriculum evaluation and interview, with a weighting of 50% and 50% respectively.

- Method of publication of results: The admission lists, as well as the results of each selection method and final ranking lists, will be published on the website of the Human Resources Unit – Scholarship Holder Center of the University of Madeira, https://www.uma.pt/sobre/servicos-administrativos/unidade-de-recursos-humanos-urh/bolsas, with the candidate being notified by email.

- Applications may be submitted within 15 working days following the publication of the Notice;
- Applications must be formalized by sending an application letter accompanied by the following documents: Curriculum Vitae, Certificates of Qualifications and proof of enrollment in a doctoral program or non-degree course;
