About the position
The Research Office supports La Trobe University researchers, senior executive academic leadership, and Central & Support Services to facilitate excellent research outcomes for the University.
The Research and Industry Agreements (RIA) Team sits in the Research Office and ensures that agreements appropriately manage the University’s risks while enabling impactful research. It is responsible for overseeing the lifecycle of research consultancies and industry collaborations, supporting growth through the identification of new opportunities, undertaking due diligence, costing, and facilitating legal review. The team manages the University’s compliance with grant funding terms, including variations, transfers and reporting obligations as well as providing hands-on support for large or complex agreements in partnership with other Research and Industry Engagement portfolio teams.
The Research Grants and Contracts Officer will act as a liaison between researchers, industry partners, funding bodies and internal stakeholders. Working in the RIA team, they will provide expert advice on drafting and negotiating externally funded research and consultancy agreements.
Skills and Experience
The ideal candidate will have:
- Undergraduate degree with subsequent relevant knowledge, training and/or experience or equivalent.
- Demonstrated experience in the administration of agreements/contracts.
- Demonstrated ability to gain a conceptual understanding of relevant policies, procedures or systems and interpretation in the application of policy and/or precedent.
- Demonstrated organisational and problem-solving skills, with an ability to manage several different projects and a high workload concurrently.
- Initiative, proactiveness and willingness to learn in a supportive environment
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills that can be tailored to suit a range of stakeholders
- The ability to work collaboratively as a member of a dedicated and high performing team
- High level of proficiency with computer software, including the Microsoft Office Suite and online contract/agreement management systems and repositories
