Research Lab Specialist Assoc
The laboratory of Roger Cone at the Life Sciences Institute is looking for an experienced mouse physiology expert with expertise in obesity and/or metabolic disease research. Our laboratory is currently funded in part by a sponsored research agreement with Courage Therapeutics to develop best-in-class melanocortin drugs for eating disorders, including obesity and anorexia nervosa. You will focus on assessment of feeding behavior, weight loss, metabolism, and pharmacokinetic analysis of drug candidates, and conduct data management and analyses using Graph Pad Prism and Excel. You will be involved in peptide drug discovery research, report directly to Dr. Cone and perform the work onsite.
Experimental job responsibilities will include:
- Peptide drug formulation
- Small animal genotyping and colony management
- Experimental design
- Subcutaneous, intraperitoneal, intravenous, oral, and intracerebroventricular administration of compounds in the mouse
- Collect and analyze murine blood and tissue samples
- Maintain well-organized, written records of experimental results
Non-experimental job responsibilities will include:
- Collection and management of datasets using Fed3, Bruker Minispec, Graphpad Prism and Excel.
- Demonstrate an understanding of acceptable procedures and techniques
- Follow University safety protocols (may include use of combustibles, toxic material, radioactive material, or carcinogens)
- Prepare reagents
- Order supplies and reagents
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology or a related discipline
- Three (3) years prior laboratory research experience
- Three (3) years prior experience with mouse colony management
- Three (3) years prior experience with mouse physiological experimentation
- Three (3) years prior experience designing experiments, analyzing, and presenting data, with training as needed.
Desired Qualifications:
- One (1) year of training in drug delivery in the mouse
- One (1) year of experience in obesity or metabolic disease research in the mouse
- One (1) year of DNA preparation and PCR experience
- One (1) year of experience with Excel or Graphpad Prism
