The Research Laboratory Specialist will serve as the laboratory manager, overseeing day-to-day lab operations, animal colony maintenance, and surgical procedures. Responsibilities include coordinating experimental schedules, managing inventory and supply orders, and ensuring compliance with animal care and safety regulations. The position requires hands-on technical skills in rodent surgery and postoperative care, as well as strong organizational and communication abilities to support research staff and trainees.
- Leading experimental research (design, execution, data collection and processing), statistical analysis, presentation of data to the PI and team members.
- Developing new skills when required and seeking out experts.
- Administrative work, including orders, EHS, lab maintenance, etc., in coordination with the team members.
- Train members in laboratory techniques and review results. Manages animal colony, follows up, and performs surgeries.
- Manage the laboratory's IBC protocol to ensure safe usage of recombinant vectors.
- Manage multiple IACUC protocols (involving rodents) and serve as the point of contact for biannual IACUC inspections.
- Serve as the laboratory's safety officer, maintaining all required documentation for annual EHS inspections.
This position requires a BS or MS, preferably in microbiology, molecular biology, bioengineering, chemistry, or a related discipline.
3 to 5 years of related experience.
Prior research experience with animal work, including:
Surgeries
Breeding
Microsurgeries
Necropsy
Experience with tissue processing and various techniques such as:
Immunohistochemistry/fluorescence
Confocal imaging
Must be a team player, demonstrating flexibility, positivity, and respectfulness.
Willingness to learn new techniques.
Ability to rapidly learn new techniques by seeking out the expertise of others and building collaborations.
Strong open communication skills with team members and the Principal Investigator (PI).
Demonstrates flexibility.
Excellent attendance record.
Note: This is a one year term-limited position with the possibility of extension based on need and funding.
