Research Lab Tech Assoc (Term-Limited)
Basic Function and Responsibility
Research in developing zebrafish models of inflammation, sepsis and coagulopathy
Duties and Responsibilities (include but not limited to):
- Conduct basic and moderately complex experiments according to plan and protocols
- Molecular biology techniques (RNA extraction, PCR, gel electrophoresis, DNA cloning, etc.)
- Microinjection, manipulation, and characterization of zebrafish embryos
- Handling and injection of mice
- Review results and suggest options for improving procedures and research protocols
- Assist in the development of laboratory procedures and protocols
- Collect, analyze, and process research data
- Train others in equipment operation and laboratory techniques
- Assist in preparation of grant proposals and manuscripts for publication
- Participate and present in laboratory meetings, with potential opportunities for local and national conferences
- Assist in maintenance of laboratory, inventory, research equipment, record keeping and software databases
Supervision:
Direction is received from Dr. Jacob, Assistant Professor in the department of emergency medicine
Supervision Exercised:
Train and direct work study, independent study, and UROP undergraduate students
Required Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in a scientific discipline such as genetics, biological science, biochemistry, chemistry or related health field
- At least 1 year experience in a related research setting
- Working knowledge of the principles of molecular biology required
- Must be able to commit at least one year to the laboratory
- Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
- Must possess excellent written and oral communication skills
- Ability to work independently or as a member of our team
- Excellent attendance, ability to multi-task, prioritize, and exercise good judgement
- Must have previous experience or be willing to work with zebrafish and mice
Preferred Qualifications:
- Individual who wants to gain research experience in a basic science laboratory with strong relevance to human disease
This is a term-limited appointment ending 3/31/2027. At the end of the stated term, your appointment will terminate, and you will not be eligible for Reduction-in-Force (RIF) benefits. This term-limited appointment does not create a contract or guarantee of employment for any period of time as you will remain subject to disciplinary or other performance measures, up to and including termination, at the will of the University in accordance with existing University policy and standards for employee performance and conduct.
