Research Manager SPH-HMEP
Job Summary
The Research Manager leads the day-to-day operations of research initiatives, including state, federal, and foundation-funded grants and contracts. This role ensures high-quality implementation of research projects by coordinating planning, quality control, documentation, and regulatory compliance (e.g., HRSA, NIH, AU, IRB). The Research Manager supervises research staff, provides grant oversight, and supports the Principal Investigator in executing research and community activities. This position emphasizes participatory and community-based centered on mental and rural health, promotes collaboration, and supports strategic planning to strengthen the research infrastructure.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities to include, but are not limited to:
- Oversee research project compliance with IRB protocols by monitoring submissions, timelines, and amendments. Assist as needed with preparing regulatory documentation and study materials. Provide guidance and support to study coordinators and ensure coordination with relevant study agencies.
- Assist with grant application preparation and submission. Monitor funding and awarded grants. Track budgets and expenses. Identify future funding opportunities through agency monitoring and literature reviews. Support research design and proposal development.
- Assist in management of study data, organize and plan project-related meetings, coordinate with funding agencies, oversee and coordinate all project related activities to ensure timely completion of task and adherence to project timelines, and support implementation of research activities.
- Supervise, onboard, and manage research staff; oversee work schedules and approve leave request, monitor workload, project progress, and quality control. Provide performance feedback, foster professional development, critical thinking and effective team communication.
- Support operational strategic plans, track KPIs, and implement special projects to enhance research support services.
- Maintain high-quality interactions with participants, faculty, staff, and external collaborators.
- Work with faculty, staff, and external partners to understand research needs and tailor support. Maintain documentation and communication for successful project execution.
- Promote dignity, respect, and meaningful participation in research. Facilitate communication, collaboration, and codesign of research processes with community stakeholders where appropriate.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Ph.D. from an accredited college or university with a minimum of one year directly applicable experience; previous supervisory experience.
OR Master's degree from an accredited college or university with a minimum of five years' progressive grant management, resources management and quality assurance program development experience previous supervisory experience.
OR Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a minimum of eight years' progressive grant management, resources management and quality assurance program development experience and previous supervisory experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Database & Spreadsheet
Ph.D. from an accredited university.
One year directly applicable related experience.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
KNOWLEDGE
Strong knowledge of database design, data integration, and familiarity with cloud platforms/ cyber security standards.
SKILLS
Problem solving, communication, and organization skills.
ABILITIES
Ability to maintain confidentiality, expertise in project management methods.
Ability to make independent judgment regarding daily work and prioritization.
Shift/Salary/Benefits
Shift: Days/M-F (work outside of the normal business hours will likely be required of an employee in an exempt level position).
Salary Minimum: $62,300- $79,400 annually.
Pay Band: B12
Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position.
This position is (fully/partially) funded through external sources. Continued employment is contingent upon the availability of these funds.
