Position Summary

There is a research opportunity in the laboratory of Yunshuo œCarolineœ Tang, MD, PhD, Assistant Professor of Neurology and Ophthalmology, and member of the WashU Neurofibromatosis Center.

We are looking for an enthusiastic candidate to join a vibrant research team focused on understanding how tumors damage the optic nerve and lead to blindness. Our laboratory uses a combination of novel genetically engineered mice and primary neuron and glial cells to determine the mechanisms underlying tumor-induced nerve injury, discover how such knowledge can be used to develop novel therapies for vision loss, and evaluate promising therapeutic agents for potential clinical trials.

Working Conditions:

This position works in a laboratory environment with potential exposure to biological and chemical hazards. The individual must be physically able to wear protective equipment and to provide standard care to research animals.

Salary Range:

Base pay is commensurate with experience.

More About This Job

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Masterœs degree in biological sciences, or bachelorœs degree with at least 2 years of in-person laboratory research experience.
  • Solid foundation of knowledge in molecular and cellular biology, immunology, and neuroscience.
  • Experience in mouse handling and tissue processing are strongly preferred.
  • Ability to work with mice, including, but not limited to, husbandry, colony management, injections, perfusion, tissue collection, tissue embedding, cryosectioning, and immunofluorescence staining.
  • Strong basic laboratory, organizational and record keeping skills.
  • Ability to work independently, follow established protocol reliably, and communicate openly and effectively with laboratory staff and investigators.
  • Experience with standard Office software (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook).
