University of Oxford - Psychiatry

Location:Oxford
Salary:£38,674 to £46,913 per annum
Hours:Full Time
Contract Type:Fixed-Term/Contract

Placed On: 13th February 2026
Closes: 6th March 2026
Job Ref: 184859

Location: Department of Psychiatry, Warneford Hospital, Oxford OX3 7JX

The University of Oxford is a stimulating work environment, which enjoys an international reputation as a world-class centre of excellence. Our research plays a key role in tackling many global challenges, from reducing our carbon emissions to developing vaccines during a pandemic.

The Department of Psychiatry is based on the Warneford Hospital site in Oxford – a friendly, welcoming place of work with an international reputation for excellence. The Department has a substantial research programme, with major funding from Medical Research Council (MRC), Wellcome Trust and National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) and provides highly rated medical training in psychiatry. The Head of Department is Professor Belinda Lennox.

We are seeking a motivated Research Project & Laboratory Manager to join the Oxford Laboratory for Neuroimmunology and Immunopsychiatry, led by Associate Professor Lahiru Handunnetthi. This is a key role at the heart of an interdisciplinary research group, combining hands-on scientific expertise with project coordination and laboratory management.

About the Role

The post is funded for two years and is based in the Centre for Human Genetics and Department of Psychiatry at the Warneford Hospital.

You will oversee day-to-day laboratory operations, supporting a safe, well-organised and productive research environment. You will manage research and administrative activities independently, and to drive research projects to completion. You will coordinate and manage a diverse portfolio of research projects in the laboratory, including timelines, resource management, and troubleshooting.

Whilst the role is a Grade 7 position, we would be willing to consider candidates with less experience who are seeking a development opportunity, for which an initial appointment would be at Grade 6 (£35,681 - £41,636) with the responsibilities adjusted accordingly. This would be discussed with applicants at interview/appointment where appropriate.

About You

You will have or to be close to completing PhD (Grade 7 post) or hold an undergraduate or Master’s degree (Grade 6 post) in cell biology, biochemistry, neuroscience or related biological discipline. You will have experience in mammalian cell culture and standard molecular biology techniques such as immunoblotting and immunostaining. An experience supporting, training, or mentoring researchers or students is desirable.

Diversity

Committed to equality and valuing diversity

Our active Psychiatry People and Culture teams and initiatives including our values and behaviours framework, work to make the Department of Psychiatry as supportive, welcoming and inclusive as possible.

Application Process

You will be required to upload a covering letter/supporting statement, CV and the details of two referees as part of your online application (via the 'Apply' button above). Please see the University pages on the application process at https://www.jobs.ox.ac.uk/application-process

The closing date for applications is 6 March 2026

Interviews will take place during week commencing 16 March 2026 and will be face to face/online as required
