Summary: There is an open call for one (1) Research Scholarship (“Bolsa de Investigação”) at Instituto de Telecomunicações, in the scope of project ESA-POGS - QKD.
Scientific Area: Optical communications
Group: Optical Quantum Communications – Av
Work Objectives: Participate in the design and implementation of a software layer for polarization compensation and basis selection for the QKD receiver based on events from a time-tag module.
Place of work: The work will be developed at the premises of Instituto de Telecomunicações at University of Aveiro, under the supervision of Prof. Nelson de Jesus Cordeiro Muga.
Duration: 6 months, with the possibility of renewal. This type of scholarship has a maximum duration of 4 years. Start date: October 2026 or soon thereafter.

Research Grants (BI):
- Are intended for carrying out R&D activities by students enrolled in a doctoral program, aiming to consolidate their scientific training through the development of research work leading to the respective academic degree, whether or not integrated into R&D projects.
- Are intended for carrying out R&D activities by master's degree holders who are enrolled in non-degree courses that are part of the educational programme of a higher education institution, developed in association or cooperation with one or more R&D units.

Benefits
Monthly salary: 1359.64€ according to the table of grant amounts awarded directly by FCT for positions held in Portugal (www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/valores). The payment will be made by bank transfer.
Eligibility criteria
University students enrolled in a PhD in the areas of Physics Engineering, Physics, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics or equivalent, with great motivation and ability for teamwork.
Selection process
Selection criteria:
- C1 - Curriculum vitae/Academic evaluation (60%);
- C2 - Suitability of the candidates’ profile to the project based on admission requirements and relevant work experience in the tasks described in the work plan (15%);
- C3 - Interview of the candidate (25%).
Candidates may be interviewed for clarification of any aspect related to the above criteria.
