The Instituto Nacional de Investigação Agrária e Veterinária I.P. (National Institute for Agricultural and Veterinary Research I.P.) hereby announces an open call for a research scholarship for a university graduate (BI) under the project endoLEGUME – Aumento da resiliência climática do grão-de-bico usando endófitos como bioinoculantes, financed by the Promove Program - Projetos I&D Mobilizadores 2025 (Fundação “La Caixa”).
1. Type and number of vacancies
1 research scholarship for a university graduate.
2. Requirements
a) Degree in Agronomic / Agricole Engineering.
b) Proof of entry in the 2nd cycle of studies conferring an academic degree (Master’s degree) or an approval diploma of the curricular component or proof of entry in a study cycle not conferring an academic degree, to be presented until the contract is signed.
3. Preference Factors
a) Curricular experience and / or evidence of professional experience in the area;
b) Ability of verbal expression and fluency in Portuguese and English (written and spoken);
c) Computer skills;
d) Professional rigor and good teamwork ability;
e) Resilience, critical spirit and ability to work autonomously;
f) Driving license, category B;
g) Immediate availability.
4. Working Plan
The graduate fellow will be responsible for supporting the project’s work tasks in which INIAV is involved, with special emphasis in experimental trials included in the tasks the action Proven experience in the tasks of activity 6 (Field validation of the proposed strategy and impacts on the soil microbiome) of the endoLEGUME project.
5. Legislation and Regulation
Statute of Scientific Research Grant, approved by Law nº 40/2004, of 18 August, amended and republished by Decree-Law nº 202/2012 of 27 August and amended by Decree-Law nº 233/2012 of 29 October, Law nº 12/2013 of 29 January and Decree-Law nº 89/2013 of 9 July and Decree-Law nº 123/2019. Regulation nº 950/2019, of 16 December, which approves the FCT, I.P. Research Grants Regulation available at (https://www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/regulamento) under Decree-Law nº 123/2019, of 28 August, which updated several provisions of the EBI.
6. Duration of the Concession
The grant will last for about 6 months, expected to start on the January 4, 2027.
7. Monthly allowance
According to the values of the Research Grants awarded by FCT in Portugal (http://www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/valores), the monthly maintenance allowance is 1090,98 €/month, and the form of payment to the grant holder is by bank transfer.
The monthly grant amount is according to the grant chart of the grants directly awarded by FCT, IP, in the country (https://www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/valores) Regulation nº 950/2019 of 16 December. The periodicity of payment of the grant is monthly and by bank transfer.
Research grant recipients benefit from personal accident insurance and, if not covered by any social protection scheme, may ensure the exercise of the right to social security by joining the voluntary social insurance scheme in accordance with the Code of Contributory Regimes of Social Security.
8. Workplace
The work will be carried out at the National Institute for Agricultural and Veterinary Research, I.P. (INIAV), Elvas.
9. Technical orientation
The fellow will be supervised by the Researcher PhD Isabel Duarte.
10. Additional documents
The application must contain the following documents:
- Detailed Curriculum vitae (dated and signed) - mandatory;
- Motivation letter (dated and signed) addressed to the Researcher of INIAV, I.P., PhD Isabel Duarte, which must include the candidate's full identification and reference to the present call for applications no. 37/2026/BI;
- Documents (digital copies) proving the elements considered most relevant and academic qualifications certificates - mandatory;
- Declaration of honor regarding the conditions that are not fulfilled in official documents, namely the availability for the development of the field work, within INIAV, I.P. working hours;
- Other documents that the applicant considers relevant for the evaluation of his/her technical and scientific merit.
11. Selection method and its value - Selection criteria
The selection method, of an eliminatory nature, will consist of curriculum evaluation and an interview, if the jury considers it necessary.
The criteria for evaluation of the applications shall be based on the combined assessment of the following criteria:
AQ - Academic qualifications;
PE - Professional experience;
PA - Professional training and profile adequacy;
E - Should the jury deems it necessary, an individual interview will be conducted with the candidates to assess the profile adequacy.
Formula for evaluation: CF=0,4AQ+0,3PE+0,3PA or CF=0,4AQ+0,3PE+0,2PA+0,1E
12. Composition of the Selection Jury
The jury has the following composition
President – Researcher PhD Isabel Duarte (INIAV).
1st and 2nd effective members – Researcher PhD and Director of UEIS-BRG António Manuel Cordeiro (INIAV); Paulo Matos Higher Technician (INIAV)
Substitute Member – Higher Technician Manuela Meneses (INIAV).
13. Announcement / notification of results
Based on the classification obtained by the candidates, the jury will proceed to their ranking. The lists of admitted and excluded candidates and the final classification will be sent to the respective e-mails and posted at the premises of the services of INIAV, I.P. in Elvas.
After the publication of the results, the candidates shall be considered automatically notified so that, if they wish to comment on the hearing of the interested parties, they may do so within 10 working days from the date of publication. At the end of this period, the selected candidate shall be notified in writing of the award of the scholarship and communication of the starting date.
In case of resignation or withdrawal of the selected candidate, the immediately better ranked candidate will be notified, and so on.

14. Application form and submission of applications
All the previous documents should be organized in PDF format and sent, compulsorily, to the e-mail bolsas@iniav.pt with reference announcement no. 37/2026/BI. Applications delivered by hand or by post will not be accepted.
15. Deadline for submissions
The deadline for submission of applications is 10 working days after the date of publication of this notice.
