Duke University’s Department of Dermatology has an immediate need for a Research Scientist in Dr. Julia Oh’s newly created lab.
Work Performed
- Manage multiple original research projects independently from start to finish (initiation, planning, execution, monitoring and closure)
- Contribute to collaboration projects and support team members as needed
- Establish and maintain cross-functional collaborations to drive research
- Develop technologies and protocols to answer research questions e.g. spatial ‘omics methods to study host-microbiome interactions
- Develop and apply novel in vitro and in vivo models for skin-microbiome research
- Write and co-write internal and external grant applications
- Write progress reports for funding agencies
- Mentor and teach undergraduate and graduate students, research assistants, and Postdoctoral Associates’ wet lab techniques and computational analysis required for working successfully in the lab
- Present research at national and international meetings and conferences
- Publish research in peer-reviewed journals
- Complete regulatory approval process for research involving human subject (IRB) and animal research (IACUC) and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements
- Maintain the lab space and consumables, and use resources sustainably
- Review literature to stay competitive in the field and share acquired knowledge with the team members
Education and Experience Required
Min Degree Requirements: Ph.D. or equivalent doctorate (e.g. Sc.D., M.D., D.V.M.). Other Credential/Experiential Requirements: 5 + years of postdoctoral experience conducting scientific research. Multiple publications and notable significant contributions to scientific research.
