Position Summary
The Research Scientist will play a significant role in the National Crystallization Center (NCC) operations, a major resource for the scientific community. The NCC is a research facility serving the structural biology community, that focuses on advancing crystallization science and providing researchers access to state-of-the-art experimental methods for generating macromolecular crystals for structure determination.
In this role, you will:
- Engage in daily operations of the NCC.
- Develop and manage the optimization pipelines in the Center.
- Work with the rest of the NCC team.
- Provide support in supervision of NCC research associates.
- Engage in outreach activities.
- Teach at NCC workshops.
- Present at conferences.
This is an ideal position for a creative PhD-level scientist who is passionate about crystallography and wants to work in an exciting and collaborative group.

Minimum Qualifications
- PhD in a relevant field with expertise in crystallization methods and molecular biology
- Knowledge of macromolecular crystallography and protein biochemistry
- Highly collaborative and team-oriented approach to conducting work, engaging in research activities, and solving problems
- Ability to design and perform laboratory experiments with deep attention to detail and excellent organizational skills
- Ability to work effectively with the external scientific community regarding the National Crystallization Center, including participation and representation at scientific meetings and conferences
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of (or willingness to learn about) automation and robotics for crystallization
- Demonstrated experience in a broad range of X-ray crystallography methods, such as crystallization screening, optimization, seeding, and harvesting
Physical Demands
- Time spent standing during laboratory work
- Occasional lifting of items up to 50 lbs.
Salary Range
$60,000 - $70,000
