Background of the recruitment and description of the project
As the driving force of the RIKEN RI Beam Factory (RIBF) — the world's most advanced heavy-ion accelerator facility — we are dedicated to the technical development, operation, and maintenance required to provide a diverse range of high-intensity heavy-ion beams with long-term stability. Furthermore, we are engaged in R&D for future RIBF upgrades and collaborate with other research groups to pioneer new frontiers in accelerator-based research.

Work content and job description
The successful candidate will be assigned to one of the following teams and will be engaged in research and development as well as operation and maintenance in the corresponding area:
A. Liquid helium cooling system for the Superconducting Ring Cyclotron (Cryogenic Technology Team)
B. Beam monitors for high-intensity heavy-ion beams (Beam Dynamics and Diagnostics Team)
Specific duties for each team are as follows:
A. The successful candidate will operate and further enhance the liquid helium cooling system of the Superconducting Ring Cyclotron. The successful candidate will also utilize machine learning and other advanced methods to evaluate and predict the integrity of superconducting coils, with the aim of establishing operational technologies that enable long-term stable operation. In addition, the successful candidate will work on developing methods for early detection and diagnosis of potential cooling system failures.
B. The successful candidate will operate and maintain a wide range of beam diagnostic instruments, such as Faraday cups and profile monitors. The successful candidate will also engage in the development of non-destructive beam diagnostic devices and high-speed electronics, as well as the automation of data acquisition and the advancement of data analysis systems. Through these efforts, the successful candidate will contribute to establishing a solid technological foundation that supports future high-reliability, high-efficiency beam operations.
Research Scientist and Technical Scientist are expected to conduct research and development on topics specified above and to contribute to the management of the laboratory. Senior Research Scientist and Senior Technical Scientist are also expected to assist the laboratory head.

Annual salary:7 million yen
Wages description: Salary will be an annual salary based on experience, ability, and performance, and will consist of a base salary and a variable salary. The variable salary will be determined each fiscal year based on experience, ability, and performance. Discretionary work, commuting and housing allowances will be provided. Social insurance will be applied.
The approximate amount of salary at the time of employment
Research Scientist / Technical Scientist:
The total amount of monthly discretionary work allowance and monthly salary at the time of hiring will be 640,000 JPY or more.
The monthly salary including discretionary work allowance at the time of employment for a candidate with 5 years of experience, ability, and achievement after completion of the doctoral course will be approximately 680,000 JPY.
Senior Research Scientist / Senior Technical Scientist:
The total amount of monthly discretionary work allowance and monthly salary at the time of hiring will be 670,000 JPY or more.
The monthly salary including discretionary work allowance at the time of employment for a candidate with 10 years of experience, ability, and achievement after completion of the doctoral course will be approximately 850,000 JPY.

Holidays: Days off include Saturdays and Sundays, public holidays, New Year's holidays (Dec. 29 - Jan. 3), and RIKEN Foundation Day.
Paid leave includes annual paid leave (up to 20 days depending on the month of employment), special paid leave (caring for a sick child, family nursing care, etc.), and work-life balance holidays (up to 7 days depending on the month of employment).
Overtime and other explanations: This position falls under the specialized duties discretionary work system; one working day will be calculated as 7 hours and 30 minutes.

Contract period description: This post is an indefinite-term employment position. Mandatory retirement age for FY 2025 and FY 2026 is 62 years old. There is a Special Temporary Employment program that allows employees to be rehired and continue working until age 65.
