Research Scientist – Tissue Mechanics - Biomechanics
Position Summary
This individual will play a key role in supporting the operations of the Tissue Analysis Core (TAC) facility, part of the COBRE-funded Center for Cardiovascular Research in Biomechanics (CRiB). Responsibilities include overseeing tissue handling and providing training to TAC users, assisting with mechanical characterization using multi-ratio planar biaxial and inflation-extension-torsion systems, ensuring data quality, rigor, and reproducibility, and developing and teaching material testing protocols to TAC users. Additionally, the role involves assisting with experimental data analysis, maintaining equipment, assist with large animal surgeries and preclinical evaluation of devices and materials, preparing reports for TAC clients, supporting TAC faculty users with scientific manuscripts, financial coordination of the Core, and performing other duties as assigned by the TAC and CRiB Directors.
Job Duties
- Characterization (20%): Assist with mechanical characterization using multi-ratio planar biaxial and inflation-extension-torsion systems
- Experimental Analysis (20%): Assist with experimental data analysis and constitutive and computational modeling
- Training for TAC Core (15%): Oversee arterial tissue handling and provide training to Tissue Analysis Core (TAC) users
- Data Accountability (5%): Ensure data quality, rigor, and reproducibility
- Protocol Development (5%): Develop and teach material testing protocols to TAC users
- Lab Maintenance (5%): Maintain equipment and ensure proper usage
- Surgical Assistance (5%): Assist with large animal surgeries and preclinical evaluation of devices and materials
- Report Generation (5%): Prepare reports for TAC clients
- Manuscript Preparation (2%): Support TAC faculty users with scientific manuscripts
- Financial (3%): Financial coordination of the Core
- General Tasks (15%): Perform other duties as assigned by the TAC and CRiB Directors
Required Qualifications
MS, PhD, or MD (or equivalent) in engineering, biochemistry, biology, or medicine. Experience working with soft biological tissues or animal surgeries.
