Posted Job Title Research Specialist B (Department of Cardiovascular Medicine) Job Profile Title Research Specialist B Job Description Summary The applicant will join an existing team that is performing translational research studies focusing on myocardial biology and heart failure pathophysiology. Job functions will involve cell culture techniques including work with induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) and iPSC-derived cardiomyocytes, cell and tissue engineering, and varied molecular biology techniques. The applicant will also be involved studies involving ex vivo characterization of myocardial tissue slices. Prior experience with cell culture and virus mediated gene-editing is required. In addition, the applicant must have significant experience using basic and advanced molecular biology techniques, tissue culture, siRNA. The applicant will also help with designing experiments, interpreting data and planning of future experiments. The applicant must be able to work independently and in small groups. Excellent organization, communication and collaboration skills are critical. Job Description This position is contingent upon favorable funding. Job Responsibilities
- Apply established cardiomyocyte differentiation protocols (from induced pluripotent stem cells).
- Fabricate, maintain and characterize engineered heart tissues using established technology.
- Use, optimize and assess siRNA knockdown techniques.
- Ex vivo characterization of myocardial tissue slices.
- RT-PCR and protein analyses.
- Design and plan Experiments.
- Assure compliance with regulations.
- Maintain meticulous and transparent records of experiments performed.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- Bachelor of Science and 1 to 2 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
