Position Summary

Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Research & Teaching Specialist III (Epidemiology/Biostatistics) for the Department of Medicine within New Jersey Medical School. Under the direction of the Principal Investigator and Principal Research Associate, provides specialized substantive analytic support for the procurement and analysis of outcomes data in a ~10,000-person linked cohort, begun in the 1980's and backed by a biospecimen repository, of persons with a history of illicit drug use.

Key Duties:

  • Collaborates in acquisition of outcomes data from multiple sources, including but not limited to vital status registries (such as the National Death Index), cancer registries (such as the New Jersey State Cancer Registry and the NAACCR Virtual Pooled Registry Cancer Linkage System [VPR-CLS]), HIV/AIDS registries, death certificates, hospital records, other sources, and data related to drug treatment centers including various electronic medical record and other databases.
  • Assesses validity of results of matching prospective cohort subjects' records to various data sources, and integrates outcomes data.
  • Participates in review, quality control, and analysis of study data, using both Microsoft Excel and SAS® Software, plus other database and analytic software. This includes careful merging of datasets, examining data for consistency, identifying and taking steps to rectify any discrepancies, cleaning datasets, and running and creating summary data report.
  • Assists in coordinating use of prospective cohorts' genomic data by collaborating institutions, as well as in linking and merging such genomic data to baseline, follow-up, and outcomes data on cohort subjects. Maintains knowledge of the approaches to analyzing genomic data.
  • Maintains existing databases and utilizes them in achieving study objectives.
  • Enters data into relevant databases.

Minimum Education and Experience:

Master's Degree from an accredited college or university in epidemiology, biostatistics, quantitative methods, public health, biomedical science, premedical studies, or a related field plus one (1) years of related research experience. Or a Bachelor's degree with a major or concentration in one of the above fields plus two (2) years of related research experience.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Must be able to commute to our offices daily, either by own auto or other means. Flexibility of hours is an asset.

Salary:

A maximum of $61,512 is budgeted for this position.
