Position Summary

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Research Teaching Specialist III for the department of Psychiatry at the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. The Principal Investigator is a clinical psychologist and faculty member in the Department of Psychiatry, Division of Addiction Psychiatry, Rutgers Addiction Research Center, and Brain Health Institute at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. Her research aims to advance the precision and personalization of evidence-based treatments and to support individuals in their recovery and health-related goals, typically using technology and other digital health tools. This position involves assisting with the development, implementation and monitoring of multiple research studies examining mental health, substance use (problems), and technology tools for measuring health and behavior. The employee will serve as an active contributor to data collection, processing, analysis, and dissemination along with senior project investigators, project staff, and trainees. Responsibilities also include assisting the Principal Investigator with budgetary, training, and administrative responsibilities, including clerical work and coordination of lab operations. The position may also involve coordinating with staff at other research sites.

Key Duties:

  • In collaboration with the research team, creates and oversees implementation of project's procedures for data collection and processing. Activities include creating REDCap (or related) data collection forms, drafting and organizing assessment protocols, drafting or facilitating IRB protocols and amendments, tracking project progress, drafting and managing study-related paperwork. Activities may also include identifying vendors for technical services or project supplies, researching or compiling data for major purchases and making informed recommendations for purchases or contracts. Oversees payment for office, travel and meeting expenses.
  • Assists in data cleaning and curating to facilitate analyses, long-term storage, and data sharing requirements. May also be asked to assist with descriptive analyses and analyses for intensive longitudinal data under the supervision of Dr. Piccirillo.
  • Assists in the preparation of grant applications for the funding of research activities, specifically gathering and organizing administrative documents, preparing bio-sketches from resumes, producing tables and spreadsheets for recruitment and retention, editing drafts of administrative materials and reviewing the final application.
  • Creates and maintains administrative documents for Dr. Piccirillo, including CV or monthly activity reports, reference libraries, publications (e.g., manuscript submissions, proofs, pre-prints, and Open Science repositories), grant-related materials (e.g., Other Support, biosketches). Maintains essential records and assists in the maintenance of all activity files. Responds to inquiries as directed.
  • Coordinates, supervises, and evaluates the work of students, fellows, and research assistants in various techniques and procedures to develop the skills necessary to carry out assignments at Rutgers or at affiliated sites (in collaboration with the project coordinator at the primary data collection site).

Minimum Education and Experience

Master's Degree in Psychology, Public Health in a relevant science plus one (1) year of related research experience, or a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology, Public Health, in a relevant science, plus two (2) years of related research experience required. Experience working with web-based and platform-enabled assessment (e.g., REDCap, Qualtrics, Metricwire) required. Experience and familiarity with grant funding, IRB procedures, academic writing, and manuscript preparation required. Experience with database management (e.g., Microsoft Excel, Access), data processing and advanced data analysis required.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

Physical Demands: Standing, sitting, walking, talking or hearing. No special vision requirements. Must be able to lift or exert up to 25 pounds. Work Environment: Office (dry lab) environment. Moderate noise.
