Research Teaching Specialist III
Position Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Research Teaching Specialist III at the Rutgers Cancer Institute, Radiation Oncology Department.
The primary purpose of the Research Teaching Specialist (RTS III) position is to conduct specialized research under the direction of the Principal Investigator, using judgment to adapt methods and techniques. The RTS III may be responsible for the management of a small-sized laboratory area. Additionally, the RTS III will assist the Principal Investigator with budgetary, training and administrative responsibilities.
Among the key duties for this position are the following:
- Works under the direction of the principal investigator.
- Assists in establishment of performance standards, as well as in the selection of methodology and instrumentation.
- As assigned, carries out various technical and research operations relating to investigatory activities of the laboratory.
- Responsible for maintaining regulatory approvals for human and animal subjects. Maintains the records, documentation in lab records for appropriate protocols for human/animal subjects. Ensures that IRB/IACUC protocols are up to date by tracking processes and conducting appropriate follow up with relevant parties in process as needed so lab maintains correct level of certifications.
- Assists in organizing and conducting specialized research activities for a particular research project. Acts as point person for particular external collaborators for the lab. Supports routine transactions and inquiries (ie – answering queries, researching answers and routing inquires as needed).
- Assists in developing and carrying out translational and clinical research, including communication with research subjects and patients participating in clinical trials.
- Assists in the instructing and training of students, fellows and technicians in various techniques and procedures to develop the skills necessary to carry out assignments in the laboratory assistants.
Minimum Education and Experience
- Master's degree in a relevant science plus one (1) year of related research experience, or a bachelor's degree in a relevant science plus two (2) years of related research experience.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Standing, sitting, walking, talking and hearing.
- No special vision requirements.
- Lifting up to 25 lbs.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Lab environment. Moderate noise.
- Exposure to blood, excrement, anti-neoplastic drugs and possible exposure to infectious and communicable diseases.
- Universal precautions are mandatory. Exposure to hazardous chemicals.
