Research Teaching Specialist V
Position Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Research Teaching Specialist V within Medical Immunology Department at the Rutgers Cancer Institute.
The primary purpose of the Research Teaching Specialist V position, under the direction of the Principal Investigator, is to perform research activities requiring the application of standard techniques and procedures in tumor immunology. This includes designing and executing cutting edge experiments investigating different treatments, including both pharmacologic and genetic interventions, in primary T cells and evaluating their anti-tumor efficacy both in vitro and in vivo as directed.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- As directed, conducts research experiments to understand the role of metabolism in regulating T cell differentiation and the immune response, with mechanistic explorations to unveil new therapeutic strategies.
- As directed, works effectively with primary T cells in vitro with downstream functional analyses by flow cytometry.
- Performs general lab maintenance tasks such as making buffers and plates for lab use and mouse genotyping by PCR and gel electrophoresis.
- Monitors tumor growth in mice by bioluminescence imaging and/or caliper measurements.
- Prepares written reports of the research experiments and gives oral presentations of the research.
- Assists with the instructing and training of students, fellows, entry-level professionals and technicians in laboratory techniques, instrumentation, etc. to develop the skills necessary to perform the required functions.
- Keeps detailed records of procedures and experiments.
- Understands and adheres to Rutgers' compliance standards as they appear in RBHS's Corporate Compliance Policy, Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest Policy. Understands, demonstrates and models the Rutgers Cancer Institute core values.
- Keeps abreast of all pertinent federal, state and Rutgers's compliance standards as they appear in RBHS's Corporate Compliance Policy, Code of Conduct and Interest policy.
- Acts as a role model for corporate integrity, customer service and improved quality.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Education and Experience
- Bachelor's Degree in Biology or a relevant science required.
- Consideration to interview will also be given to applicants who have not yet graduated with a Bachelor's degree. Documentation of the required Bachelor's degree must be provided prior to the commencement of employment.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Standing, sitting, walking, talking and hearing.
- No special vision requirements.
- Lifting up to 25 lbs.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Laboratory environment. Moderate noise.
- Exposure to blood, excrement, retrovirus, antineoplastic drugs, and possible exposure to infectious and communicable diseases. Universal precautions are mandatory.
- Exposure to hazardous chemicals.
