Job Overview
The Research Technician / teaching assistant position in the Chemistry Department at Georgetown University has two roles, 50% will be dedicated to research technician responsibilities in the Braselmann lab to advance efforts for an ongoing NIH R35 grant, and 50% will be dedicated to teaching in the Chemistry Department. This position exists because these roles must be filled rapidly. The research technician role will be fulfilled by a candidate with a BS degree in Chemistry or a related field to support ongoing research efforts in the Braselmann lab. This includes chemical sample prep and data collection and analysis, together with other members of the Braselmann lab. The teaching role requires a candidate with a BS degree in Chemistry or a related field, as the Chemistry department has teaching lab responsibilities that require personnel with expertise to supervise undergraduate students during the semester. Additional duties include but are not limited to:
- Performing experiments in the Braselmann lab according to established protocols
- Following workflows in the Braselmann lab to analyze and process collected data
- Close interaction with students and staff in the Braselmann research lab
- Design new experiments in consultation with Dr. Braselmann, guided by insights from experiments performed by other lab members
- Supervising undergraduate students in teaching labs
- Adhering to chemical safety rules and advising undergraduate students in maintaining a safe lab environment
Work Interactions
This position fits into the Braselmann lab research program and the Chemistry Department teaching goals directly. One, the candidate will perform research in line with an ongoing project in the Braselmann lab (funded by an NIH R35 grant). For this role, the candidate will report directly to Dr. Braselmann. Two, the candidate will interact with members of the department to assist in teaching undergraduate students in Chemistry labs during their undergraduate education. For this role, the candidate will report to Dr. Swift and/or a designated teaching lab coordinator. Together, the candidate will be integrated in teaching and research efforts in the Chemistry department at large and become part of the Chemistry department community.
Requirements and Qualifications
- BA or BS in Chemistry or a related field
- Experience in performing original research, record keeping and data analysis, and teaching undergraduate Chemistry labs

Pay Range
The projected salary or hourly pay range for this position which represents the full range of anticipated compensation is: $17.95 - $26.84. Compensation is determined by a number of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate's individual qualifications, experience, education, skills, and certifications, as well as the University's business needs and external factors.
