Essential Job Duties:
The Research Technician will oversee cultivation and maintenance of research plant materials in greenhouse and field setting and maintain plant material, greenhouse and research field plots, irrigation, and fertilizer applications in accordance with established research protocols. The position will utilize seed, stem cutting, and dividing for propagation and make plant name/genotype/variety tags to ensure accurate identification and tracking of materials.
Responsibilities include:
- Collect samples and data
- Collect data and record it in outdoor/greenhouse environment
- Input data to support research documentation and reporting.
- Coordinate student workers
- Help students collect and maintain samples
- Assist students with data collection and lab work, while working closely to coordinate with the PI, students and other employees in HFL and JCRA to ensure daily research activities are completed effectively.
Operational Duties:
- Ensure cleanliness of work environment
- Utilize basic lab maintenance
- Maintain inventory
- Help PI with paperwork as necessary to support the operational and administrative needs of the research program
Other Work/Responsibilities:
- Other tasks and responsibilities may be assigned based on the needs of the organization and evolving priorities.
Minimum Experience/Education:
Demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work.
Required Qualifications:
- High school and one year of directly related experience required to perform the assigned duties.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Horticulture, nursery crop, and plant propagation experience.
Required license or certification:
- Valid driver's license required.
- Valid NC driver's license or the ability to obtain within 60 day of start.
