Position Highlights

The University of Arizona's Department of Neuroscience invites you to apply to the role of Research Technician II. In this role, you will support laboratory research focused on neural circuitry using mouse behavioral models, inviting you to contribute directly to cutting-edge neuroscience work. As part of this position, you will assist with ongoing projects examining early-life stress and aversion- and reward-related systems by performing routine experimental procedures and behavioral assays under general supervision, offering you the opportunity to build valuable hands-on experience.

In doing so, you will apply established techniques such as chemogenetics, optogenetics, fiber photometry, electrophysiology, and calcium imaging in accordance with defined protocols, allowing you to expand your technical skillset. Along the way, you will also collect and organize data, support basic analysis, and contribute to overall laboratory operations, positioning you as an integral part of the research team.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Perform research activities in support of independent and collaborative projects investigating neural circuitry related to mouse behavioral assays.
  • Assist with executing experiments using established methods and tools to manipulate and measure neural activity, following defined protocols and guidance.
  • Collect, organize, and analyze experimental data using standard techniques and procedures. Interpret results at a basic level to support research objectives and assist with documenting findings in accordance with lab standards.
  • Collaborate with undergraduate students on projects by demonstrating routine laboratory techniques, lab procedures and safety guidelines.
  • Working with mice in a research setting.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Basic knowledge of neuroscience principles, particularly related to neural circuitry and behavior.
  • Familiarity with standard laboratory practices, safety procedures, & research compliance guidelines.
  • Basic data collection, organization, and record-keeping skills.
  • Ability to work both independently on assigned tasks and collaboratively within a research team.
  • Attention to detail in performing experiments and recording data.

  • High school diploma or high school diploma equivalency is required.
