Position Summary
A position is available for a Research Technician with laboratory experience or equivalent expertise in neuroanatomy, pathology, or biochemistry. The individual will be responsible for preparing and assisting the neuropathologist or laboratory manager with brain autopsies, brain tissue harvesting, preservation, processing, and analysis required for a neuropathologic diagnosis of brain disease. Responsibilities will also include storage and retrieval of specimens from storage locations, electronic medical and pathological data entry, general laboratory and instrument maintenance, and participation in weekly lab meetings. Where appropriate, training will be provided. This position will report to the principal investigator of a neuropathology core laboratory facility.
Assists with the technical aspects of studies and experiments, including documentation and preparation of specimens.
Job Description
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
- Coordinates brain autopsy and photography for Neuropathologist.
- Prepares human brain specimens for histology by processing and embedding tissue and cutting and staining prepared sections.
- Performs data entry and maintains data files on research. Maintains specimen archive.
- Prepares solutions and reagents for histology. Facilitates staining using automated equipment.
- Complies with established safety procedures and maintains required documentation on laboratory and specimen conditions.
- Ensures lab conditions and equipment are properly cleaned and maintained in accordance with established procedures.
- Assists with general lab maintenance and cleaning.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Working Conditions:
- This position works in a laboratory environment with potential exposure to biological and chemical hazards.
- The individual must be physically able to wear protective equipment and to provide standard care to research animals.
- Able to lift 50lbs and be able to sit or stand for extended periods.

Salary Range
$16.92 - $26.44 / HourlyThe salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
