Research Technician (Mass Cytometry Specialist)

About us

The UCL Cancer Institute is the hub for cancer research at University College London, one of the World's leading universities. The Institute draws together over 400 talented scientists who are working together to translate research discoveries into developing kinder, more effective therapies for cancer patients.

The Cancer Institute includes the Cancer Research UK and UCL Cancer Trials Centre which is one of the largest cancer trials centres in the UK conducting multi-centre national and international phase III trials, feasibility studies and early phase I and II studies.

About the role

We are looking for a talented and enthusiastic Research Technician to join the Cell Communication Lab (www.tape-lab.com) at the UCL Cancer Institute. The successful applicant will aid the maintenance and development of single-cell technologies to study cell signalling in patient-derived organoid (PDO) models of colorectal cancer (CRC). These will include the development and maintenance of our custom mass cytometry platforms (including developing metal-antibody panels and custom barcodes).

Experience in wet lab single-cell technologies and antibody biochemistry will be highly advantageous. Familiarity with flow or mass cytometry, click-chemistry, robotic liquid handling, and protein modification biochemistry will also be beneficial.

The primary supervisor will be Prof. Chris Tape, team leader of the Cell Communication laboratory at UCL Cancer Institute (www.ucl.ac.uk/cancer/research/department-oncology/cell-communication-group and www.tape-lab.com).

The technician will be supported by core facility specialists throughout the UCL Cancer Institute.

About you

Successful candidates must have BMSc/MRes or be studying for a MSc/MRes in the relevant field and experience with single-cell technologies (mass cytometry, flow cytometry, scRNA-seq).

Willingness and ability to work as part of a team and to work flexibly in order to achieve project demands is essential, as is the ability to react effectively to requests from the line manager.

Background in cancer and immunology, experience with 3D organoid culture and experience with ordering and finance management are desirable but not essential.
