THIS IS A GRANT-FUNDED POSITION
JOB SUMMARY/ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
The Researcher 1 supports a multidisciplinary research program focused on understanding the mechanisms of acute kidney injury (AKI), kidney transplantation, and renal recovery.
Responsibilities
- Assists in establishing and optimizing rodent models of kidney transplantation.
- Performs and assists with rodent models of AKI, including nephrectomy, renal ischemia-reperfusion injury, and rhabdomyolysis.
- Assists with pre-operative preparation, surgical procedures, post-operative monitoring, and animal care.
- Performs animal handling, treatment administration, and biological sample collection.
- Collects, processes, and preserves blood, urine, kidney, and other tissue samples.
- Assists with histological, biochemical, molecular, and functional analyses of kidney injury and recovery.
- Maintains accurate laboratory records, experimental protocols, and animal-related documentation.
- Assists with data collection, organization, analysis, and presentation.
- Maintains laboratory supplies, equipment, and general laboratory organization.
- Adheres to institutional guidelines for animal welfare, biosafety, and laboratory safety.
- Collaborates with research staff, trainees, and investigators on ongoing projects.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
EDUCATION:
Bachelor's Degree. (Doctoral Degree preferred.)(TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED)
EXPERIENCE:
Three (3) years of relevant lab experience; OR Master's Degree and one (1) year or relevant lab experience. Surgical experience is necessary for this position.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Ability to manage time and work on multiple projects simultaneously.
- Ability to think and work independently as well as collaboratively.
- Demonstrates effective listening, oral and written communication skills.
- Technical writing skills for proposal, report, and manuscript preparation.
- Ability to create and maintain extensive records on research subjects.
- Knowledge of Basic Research Principles and Federal Code of Regulations for Clinical Research Studies.
- Excellent organizational skills.
WORK SCHEDULE:
This position may occasionally be required to work evenings
