Researcher

At the Faculty of Medicine, Department of Clinical Science, Mohn Center for Diabetes Precision Medicine a full-time temporary position as researcher (100%) is available. The position is external financed by Novo Nordisk Foundation and for the time being a part of the project «Towards personalized therapies in childhood diabetes: Role of rare genetic variants for diagnosis and treatment». The project has temporary financing for up to 1.5 years.

About the project/work tasks:

• The researcher will work on functional studies of the transcription factors "hepatocyte nuclear factor -1 alpha and 1 beta" (HNF-1A and -1B). Pathogenic variants in the genes encoding HNF-1A and -1B can cause diabetes, known as "maturity-onset diabetes of the young" (MODY). The project will focus on defining the function of these transcription factors and how various pathogenic variants can lead to HNF-1 dysfunction and disease. Some of these variants are found in the Childhood Diabetes Registry.
• The position involves normally demanding and specialized technical-professional support functions related to teaching and research.
• It is necessary for the researcher to have extensive laboratory qualifications in biochemical methods.
• Experience in research on transcription factors and analysis of mutations in diabetes genes will be highly valued, for example: experience with cell and molecular biology, cell cultivation (especially beta-cell models), cell cultures, protein analyses (Western Blotting, ELISA), and various biological analysis methods. Experience with transactivation assays and familiarity with international standards and guidelines for interpreting Mendelian sequence variants.
