Position Summary

The University of Alabama at Birmingham, The Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine has a Researcher III position available and is seeking a dedicated Researcher III to join their team.

General Responsibilities

  • As directed, to independently set up and perform experiments and procedures in support of lab goals.
  • To collect, enter, summarize and analyze data.
  • To monitor results, detect and report unusual outcomes and suggest modifications.
  • To develop and improve techniques for the lab.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Maintain mouse colonies including breeding, weaning, and genotyping.
  • Conduct mouse dissections and minor surgical procedures and sample preparation.
  • Carry out routine histological staining of tissue and cell sample.
  • Perform cell culture.
  • Conduct routine molecular biology experiments (e.g., PCR, gel electrophoresis, Western blot).
  • Help with lab organization and routine operations (autoclaving, etc.).
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Master's degree in a related field OR Bachelor's degree in related field and two (2) years of related experience OR Associate's degree in related field and four (4) years of related experience required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.

Preferences

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in biology, biomedical sciences, or a related field.
  • Background or training in biological or biomedical research preferred.
  • Prior lab experience working with mice and common molecular techniques preferred.
